muck
Is venison considered kosher? Specifically, my cousin killed a deer and we're getting the meat. A friend was telling me about a Jewish charity / food bank thing and I was curious about donating some/all of the venison, but didn't want to offend anyone. Czarina
I think that the food has to be butchered/prepared specially in order to be deemed kosher. Unless your cousin is a kosher butcher, I think you're out of luck. You should call the place and ask, they won't be offended.

Kosher mammals have to have a divided hoof and chew their cud. That means eating cows, sheep, goats, buffalo, etc ("cattle")....all of the grazing animals. Not sure if deer qualifies, but at least I was able to tell you the criteria.

rocknrobn26
As many Jews do not keep Kosher, I'd call the Food Bank up and ask. Also, many food banks won't/can't accept non-commercially processed food. It's a very generous gift though.
