Avernus
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...-faneca-monday/ note: there are links within the article that are not posted here...so you might want to check out the link unless you just want to read... It seems that where there was smoke there was fire concerning Alan Faneca's future with the New York Jets. Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the team will formally announce the veteran guard's release on Monday. Reports surfaced early last week that Faneca could be on the way out of Rex Ryan's clubhouse and picked up steam through the first two days of the draft. The Jets were shopping Faneca for a trade, but the $7.5 million they didn't want to pay him was likely a deterrent for other teams as well. With $5.25 million of that contract guaranteed, the Jets clearly don't think Faneca's presence is necessary for them to make a run back to the AFC Championship Game and beyond. Offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse was the team's second-round pick, which signaled a change was coming, and when G.M. Mike Tannenbaum spoke with reporters Friday night he didn't do much to throw anyone off the scent. "Alan's on our team. He's done a lot of great things for us. I know this weekend that there's typically a lot of transactions that happen, but he's on our team and Alan's done a lot of great things for us." The past tense would appear to be the only tense for Faneca and the Jets going forward.
Footballjoe
Could be he is on his way out or it could be the J-E-T-S are just solidifying that line and planning for the near future.

Footballjoe
I wonder how his zone blocking skills are?
Rovers
Faneca had some trouble pass blocking last year, but his release is still quick and he can run block. I'm sure the Jets would have rather kept him, but for about 5 million less than he was going to get.

Rovers
I didn't realize the Jets had to pay Faneca over 5 mil in garantees.... now this cut looks stupid to me. OK, so he gave up 7 sacks last year, a lot for an OLG, but still...

OK, so he gave up 7 sacks last year, a lot for an OLG, but still... Agreed. Uncapped year, HUGH aspirations for this team, and he is a leader. Why break up a good thing to save $2.5 million. Now we are looking cheap.

Who are the imposter AZ Cardinals these last few years!?!? Up until they brought in Ken W and his coaching staff, they were the laughing stock of the NFL. Now, they've been to a superbowl, won 2 straight NFC West titles, and bringing in free agents like this! Got to say, I like it!! Bidwell over these past few season is washing his hands of the laughing stock label, and is putting a stamp on the NFL showing that he wants to put a winner on the field! GREAT SIGNING!!
