Jackass
have bought two canons. they both broke right after the warranty expired. just looking for a basic camera, maybe up to 150 bucks.
BeeR
I can only tell you that I had similar experience w/Canons and currently have a Samsung (about $100 or less) and it sucks ie picture taking wise. "Smart mode" is anything but and fuzzy pics/improperly lighting are common. Model 650 or some such. FWIW
Big Country
Photography Forum will probably give you better advice. For the $100-$150 range, you probably aren;t going to get much better than what is pretty much standard on phones nowadays. That said, we have a Nikon Coolpix S4100 that my wife got not too long ago after losing/breaking about her 3rd point and shoot camera in as many years. I'm almost at the point of having to thnk of these as disposable cameras with the way she seems to go through them. Obviously the pictures are not as good as are Nikon DSLR, but this is a pocket camera, the pictures are good enough for our needs and it is right in your wheelhouse pricewise, at about $130 or so. If you simply mean how many megapixels maybe, but all the rest too? I have heard Nikons are good. Nice to see they kept the quality into the digital age. If you simply mean how many megapixels maybe, but all the rest too? yeah, camera phones can't compete with even the worst dedicated digital camera. I don't know enough about camera in that price range to suggest particular models...just decide what kind of features matter to you (for example, do you care more that the camera fits in your pocket, or has a big zoom range?) and find one that fits. the big review sites can be extremely helpful (dpreview, steves, or cnet or amazon)
BeeR
Just a word about reviews: that POS Samsung I mentioned got great reviews. I'd take them with a grain of salt. Better to get info from people you know/trust if possible.

Chief Dick
That's funny, 'cuz I have two Canon SureShots and they've been fine. Agree. I bought a sure shot probably 4 years ago that has been beat to hell and back. It still sits in my tackle box and still takes good photos. Skippy
That's funny, 'cuz I have two Canon SureShots and they've been fine. My daughter has one that is three years old and has been through everything a teenage girl can give it. It still lives.
