CrimsonGhost
What is likely hood he gets traded? I would love to see him on a team who will commit to him. On GreenBay he would potentially be insane. Is he someone to target? I am a huge fan of Dwill and would love to see his career rebound. I think I would be willing to move a guy like Kendall Hunter but in all likely hood Hunter ha more potential this year then Deangelo. Big John
May be hard for salary-cap purposes to trade him.

Bronco Billy
Virtually no chance he gets traded. You guys need to look at cap numbers before proposing this kind of stuff to see what it does to both teams involved, then figure if both teams can take the hit, whether the team he would be going to has the need, inclination, and corporate culture as well as the cap space to make the trade. Cap hit to CAR if DWill is traded: Save approx. $2.63M in 2012 salary but take a $12.8 hit in accelerated signing bonus for a net total of $10.17M additonally against their current 2012 cap for a player that wouldn't be playing for them any longer. The team acquiring would pay DWill approx. $2.63M in remaining 2012 salary and then acquire the remainder of the 2013: $4.75M, 2014: $5.75M, 2015: $6.75M contract for a currently 29 yr old RB they would have to fit in during the middle of the season. Just isn't feasible, especially from the CAR side. And it certainly isn't GB's MO to go for anything like this. Edited to fix guaranteed salary of $5M, which wasn't a roster bonus Edited October 27, 2012 by Bronco Billy
Rileyrott
What ever possessed Carolina to give him a contract like this in the first place?
Seahawk
What ever possessed Carolina to give him a contract like this in the first place? The person who just got fired.
DuckDuckGoose
He is stuck there. Unfortunately who would want to take that kind of hit?
whitehype
Can they cut him ? or do they have to wait till off season ??
Big John
Can they cut him ? or do they have to wait till off season ?? The salary-cap hit would still apply, but cutting him after Jun1 next year would spread out the hit.
Tford
What ever possessed Carolina to give him a contract like this in the first place? Word is that his and Olindo Mare's ridiculous kicker contract were signed because Carolina was too far below the salary floor after the new CBA was signed. Bronco Billy
Word is that his and Olindo Mare's ridiculous kicker contract were signed because Carolina was too far below the salary floor after the new CBA was signed. This is true, and CAR used also that as an opportunity to reward Williams, who was previously playing at a price below his value and by all accounts has made substantial positive impact to the community. Just isn't feasible, especially from the CAR side. And it certainly isn't GB's MO to go for anything like this. Edited to fix guaranteed salary of $5M, which wasn't a roster bonus The signing bonus pro-ration all goes to Carolina. The 2012 portion has already been applied, the $10.3 hits their 2013 cap all at once if they trade him. The trading team takes on just the salaries. DWill's salaries aren't guaranteed after this season, so there's little risk from GB's (or anyone else's) perspective. The question is if they want to take that hit, but there's a lot to mitigate that. Beginning next year teams are required to reach a certain % of the cap, and this could actually help them hit that floor without spending actual cash. I don't know what Richardson's goals or expectations are, but if they don't have plans to splurge on the cap money the hit might not be a deal-breakers, especially if it clears up a longer-term cap black hole. One of the chief complaints about teams being required to spend minimum dollars, and the reason it didn't go immediately into effect, was that teams would have to spend a lot of "false" money just to get to the minimum level. They only have 6 players scheduled to be free agents next year, and they don't traditionally go out and spend a lot externally, so there's no glaring risk there. And they were budgeting $4.75M for him already (salary) so it's really only a $5.5M hit.

Yep. Word is that his and Olindo Mare's ridiculous kicker contract were signed because Carolina was too far below the salary floor after the new CBA was signed. There is no floor until 2013 so unless the contract was very back-loaded it's not helping.
