Granted, the Steelers had absolutely zero business making the playoffs at 8-8 and put themselves in this position by starting 0-4 and 2-6. However, what a brutal ending.

When I saw the Chiefs had most starters sitting and their best players inactive, I figured there was zero chance. Then, the Chiefs run the clock down to 4 seconds and Succop comes out to kick a 41 yard field goal that would have sent the Steelers to the Cincy next week. He missed. Then, the Chiefs stop the Chargers on the 1st drive, only to give up a fake punt by the skin of their teeth on 4th and 2 from their own 30. If they stop them, the Chiefs are in good position again.

The Bengals are breathing a sigh of relief. The Steelers have played well the 2nd half of the season and just hammered the Bengals in Cincy a couple of weeks ago. Now, they get a Chargers team who needed lots of help to beat the Chiefs 2nd string.

Like I said, no business making the playoffs, but, that was brutal to watch. :bash:

Yeah - and most people haven't talked about it, but that fumble on the fake punt really was a fumble. He was not down at all, it was a bad call that the booth didn't choose to review. Even if it did look like the right call, wouldn't you still want to review such a pivotal play to make SURE it was correct? I don't scream at the TV a ton, but I did there.

I don't believe that play was reviewable. If they had called it a fumble, then it's reviewable.

They didn't rule him down, they ruled his forward progress was stopped. That's not reviewable.

I see - makes sense now, there wasn't a ton of clarification after the play actually happened, other than a few replays showing the ball coming loose. Still a bad call IMO, but if Succop had made the FG we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Also, Costas talked about that kick after the Dallas game - he said a new rule was put in place this season, stating that you can't have more than 6 men on one side of the ball - the chargers apparently had 7. A penalty should have been called, giving succop another chance 5 yards closer. It doesn't hurt quite as bad since it really doesn't affect the Chiefs, but still would have been nice to see the second stringers pull it off. Nobody seemed to want that 6 seed today except Pittsburgh
