ImNotSoIgnorant
Is it just me or is that personal foul call wrong? Niles Paul catches the ball, starts to run, and then angles his head towards their heads. The two tacklers couldn't do jack to avoid it. I am much more in favor of protecting players from head hits, but what can the defense do if the person with the ball uses their head to take a tackle?! DMD
It was a helmet to helmet hit. Illegal. He sort of got sandwiched by two helmets.

rajncajn
It was a helmet to helmet hit. Illegal. He sort of got sandwiched by two helmets. That's it. That's the rule, like it or not. The DB has to let him catch the ball, move aside and try to take him down from the side.
IrishPride
Didn't the ref say "Hit to a defenseless player"? Not sure if they called Helmet to Helmet? Edited September 26, 2014 by IrishPride
Wolverines Fan
I'm not going to jump into the rules debate. I just hope Paul is okay.
Ice717
They dubbed it defenseless receiver. My favorite was Mike Carey telling everyone it will be ruled a catch because he was able to catch and protect himself. If you're able to protect yourself how are you defenseless? This was Paul's fault for leading with his head. You can put the football against your chest close to your chin, but that doesn't mean you bend your neck and head straight forward so it can be smashed by two guys trying to hit you with their shoulders.
