There will be blood ... September 3

This year the NFL changes and there will be no cut down from 90 to 75 after this weekend. Instead, there is just one cut down on Sep. 3 from 90 to 53.  Only four days before the season starts. That is 1,184 players that lose their job in one day. Imagine there will be some surprise cuts with almost no chance to react unless you draft in the final three days.

Should be interesting...

Wonder what veterans get the axe with almost no chance to join another team?

Cuts don't have to be made until then, but might teams still make some cuts before then?  Guess we'll find out.

Another advantage to having a late draft, but I know that's not possible especially for people that play in many leagues.

I have to assume this was something that the majority of teams wanted, and I'd think the person voting for the team is taking input from the HC & GM, which means they'd be in favor of this change. More time to evaluate and more tape for players released is a plus. Will make that time after the final pre-season game hectic, with only a few days to finalize their roster.

The NFL teams pushed for this as a way to have more time to evaluate players. Hard to believe someone who would have been considered at the cut to 75 would still be in play when 18 more players are released  but this is what the NFL wanted. Imagine the bedlam with all teams cutting 37 players, then singing some to practice squad and trying to reach to get players released by other teams. All in three days.
