popmagnet
Nov 23 Blaylock will make his third consecutive start when the Chiefs take the field against the San Diego Chargers this weekend, replacing regular starter Priest Holmes, who has been ruled out because of a sprained right knee. In nine games this season, including two starts, Blaylock has 394 yards and five touchdowns on 84 carries. He also has 17 catches for 166 yards. Advice: According to head coach Dick Vermeil, Holmes could return as early as next week, meaning Blaylock would resume his duties as the team's top reserve. San Diego has been solid against the run this season, allowing just 76 yards per game, best in the NFL. Here's the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5598/news And this: Nov 23 While the Chiefs have targeted Holmes' return date against Oakland, there are no guarantees he'll be ready to play then, the Chiefs' Web site reports. Recommendation: Coach Vermeil was asked if Holmes will play against the Chargers on Sunday. "No, I don't think so," Vermeil said. "I think there might be a chance that he'll be ready to play a week from this week (at Oakland). He definitely feels better, but I think he's at least two games away." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4047/news And: Q: Will Priest Holmes be ready to play? VERMEIL: “No, I don’t think so. I think there might be a chance that he’ll be ready to play a week from this week. He definitely feels better, but I think he’s at least two games away.” http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2004/11/23/ve...ess_conference/ Edited November 24, 2004 by popmagnet

VERMEIL: “No, no. Once he gets healthy he’ll play. He wants to play…badly. It’s hurting him more right now than ever in his career to miss. He struggled with this for the last nine days. It’s really affected him. He’s over the hump now and realistic about what he has to do to get ready to play. He’s looking forward to it. He’s over the emotional downside of it. He knows where his priorities are maybe even more today than maybe before he hurt his knee. He wants to play.” I personally thought Vermeil might decide to keep Priest out since their wins won't really mean anything . Get him healthy for next year ( assuming he doesn't retire ).
