Pinot Noir question.

I picked up a bottle of this the other day but haven't opened it yet. It better be good mister, or you just cost me $6.99! :D:bash:

By the way, I noticed the bottle didn't even have a date on it. What kind of winery doesn't date their bottles? LOL

Full Disclosure: while my wife loves a good Pinot Noir, she originally purchased this particular wine because the bottle matched out kitchen nicely. :D

Well i have a wine question, but it doesnt pertain to Pinot.

I have just recently started to attempt to get into wine, i probably had my 1st bottle about a month ago, anyway i know nothing about them, and would like a few suggestions on inexpensive reds to try out..

Also some 1 gave me a few bottles, if any 1 could comment on them just to give me a heads up before i drink them that would be cool

Vitiano Falesco 2004

Terrazas Malbec 2005

Big House Red (2004 California red wine)

Also some 1 i know went to France recently and brought me back what they called "wine from the Popes Palace" any insite?

Vitiano Falesco is a simple Italian red that I've enjoyed in some vintages. My only reservation is that I've recommended it to some and they thought it to be thin and unremarkable. So, mixed bag on that one.

Terrazas Malbec very exciting grape coming from Argentina. IMO Argentine Malbec is among the best wine values going. Tons of extract and body, good fruit, and enough nuance. Good with steak and such.

Big House Red nice, juicy, but IMO a mediocre example of what Rhone blends should be (it's technically not a rhone blend as it has other stuff not typically included but it is inspired by them). Once again, tasty enough wine but you can get the real thing for about the same money.

I may be wrong but I think you're talking about Chateau Neuf du Pape which is an appelation that makes outstanding wines. Who's the producer?

I posted something about a year ago regarding many bargain Malbecs that were great. I'll have to dig it up.

Well the person said they got it from the Popes Palace in France, wich is where the Pope used to stay when the Popes stayed in France.

The bottle says:

Cuvee De L'an 2000

Enclave des Papes

Cotes Du Rhone

Vitiano Falesco 2004

I don't know about the 2004, but for years this wine was a very good value for the price. (Interesting story about this wine: my wife and I were in Venice when we got engaged and the next evening after I actually asked my then fiancee to marry me, she suggested that we get a glass of wine somewhere and then go back to little bridge where I had proposed to her the night before. So we stopped into a little non-touristic bar and my wife asked the bartender if we could get two glasses of wine and then take them out of the bar with us (assuring him that we would return the stemware a little bit later). As my wife was trying to explain to the bartender why we wanted to leave the bar with the glasses, a local guy sitting at the bar overheard that we had just gotten engaged and he insisted that he buy the bottle of wine for us. The wine he chose was the Vitiano Falesco. (After we had our drink at the bridge we went back to the bar and had a few more drinks with the guy (who turned out to be a cook at a local restaurant) and the bartender (who it turned out was his good friend).) As such, this wine, simple though it may be, will always have a fond place in my heart.

SO you know that when i open that bottle up, that story is going to pop into my head :D

well, to give you a different thought, you can think that Wine Spectator gave the 2004 a rating of 90 with the "smart buy" designation. (I just picked up a bottle earlier today at my local wine store.) :D

winemaker's notes:

A blend of equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes grown in the region of Umbria. Vitiano is vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged in Nevers barrels for 3 months before being bottled. This is a young red wine with explosive, luscious aromas. The wine has a wonderful deep, ruby red color with a wide range of organoleptic qualities. It is rich in polyphenols and balanced acidity. This versatile red is at it's best in its youth when the fresh fruit character is most evident. Vitiano is a perennial value.

"90--A wine with lovely balance and clean plum, berry and chocolate character, medium body and polished tannins. The perfect house wine--a great value. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2010." Wine Spectator May 15, 2006

"89--...This serious effort possesses a deep ruby/purple-tinged color as well as lovely aromas of black currants, licorice, dried herbs, and earth. An amazing value..."
