Outshined
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-spd...la-sports-front Chiefs QB wants to play in South Florida By Alex Marvez South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted April 15 2007 It shouldn't be much longer until quarterback Trent Green joins the Dolphins. A source said Saturday the Dolphins are set to make another run at acquiring Green from Kansas City and a trade should be completed this week. The Dolphins and Chiefs were far apart in negotiations last month, but Green's desire to play in South Florida will likely push Kansas City to finalize a deal for a second-day pick in the April 28-29 draft. Green essentially controls his destiny, as he can scuttle virtually any trade by refusing to restructure a contract that calls for a 2007 base salary of $7.2 million. The Dolphins and Green already have reached agreement on parameters of a new contract. The addition of Green would likely spell the end of quarterback Daunte Culpepper's tenure with the Dolphins. Culpepper, who is due to earn $5.5 million this season, didn't receive medical clearance to participate in this weekend's minicamp because of ongoing problems with his right knee. If Culpepper were released or traded, Green would battle Cleo Lemon for the starting spot, although Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller has said he hopes to draft a quarterback. Lemon and the unheralded Gibran Hamdan are the only two quarterbacks participating in the minicamp. "They've got to bring in somebody. It's just the name of the game," Lemon said. "You've still got to compete. ... Nothing is going to be handed to you."
CaptainHook
Not sure that bringing in Green is the answer. His career is pretty much over. Culpepper's knee must be in pretty bad shape. Nice medical staff the Dolphins have. They gave the thumbs down to Brees and the thumbs up to Culpepper . . .
kpholmes
Al Davis has already expressed interest in Cullpepper. If he hits the market, expect Oakland to be one of his first stops... meaning we could see CJ2 wearing the Silver and Black.

Is there any reason at all to think culpepper could be even a decent player again? If the're gonna pick CJ, they should go ahead and do it, but basing the decision on culpeppers availability seems miguided to me.

I think it has everything to do with Culpepper's availability; Al Davis needs a quarterback. He loves Daunte, regardless of whether he can play or not, he will sign him and start Walter until Daunte is ready. Because he will have filled his need at QB, Russell won't ever enter his mind again, and take CJ2

The Al Davis "we're picking CJ so time to pony up a trade" is starting to infect Raiders fans too.
rattsass
The Chiefs will be the only winner in this turn of events, should it actually work out this way. They get some draft picks. The Dolphins lose because they are trying to put a band-aid on a problem. Signing Culpepper last year was a huge mistake. Giving up draft picks for Green may solve the QB problem, and maybe it won't. Trent Green was simply not the quarterback he was before "the hit". "The hit" may have spelled the end of the Trent Green we knew, and the Dolphins are rolling the dice with their money on a hard 8 again. Not smart. Culpepper, if he ends up in Oakland.....well, we all know how that story ends. They already have a Culpepper type quarterback that can't get it done. Do they need another? As for CJ2, being drafted by Oakland presents serious limitations to his offensive output as a rookie, and probably for years to come. If the Raiders do get Culpepper, I am seriously dreading the hype of Culpepper to Moss coming back, and then if you throw CJ2 in the mix, oh yeah, now you have the makings of a hype machine. It will be absolutely nauseating, and by week seven of the season it will have all come crashing down, destroying the lives of those in its wake. Theres a bad moon on the rise......... Bronco Billy
I understand what MIA is up to, but they are setting the franchise back another 3 years. They were already #12 in the league in sacks allowed, and now they are wanting to bring on board the QB who was 7th in the NFL in being sacked in 2005, when he was 2 years younger & had a brain that was relatively physically intact. MIA is aiming to go QB very early in the draft - probably Quinn if everything shakes out properly for them - Culpepper signs w/ OAK, Russell drops to MIN, and Quinn is left on the board. The problem with that scenario is that CLE could go QB easily, especially with Russell left on the board, or less likely DET could go QB (I still think that they'll trade down even though they could really use OT J Thomas badly). MIA had better be investigating trading up. As far as the possibility of OAK picking up Culpepper - good luck with that, Al. He couldn't stay healthy in MIA, and your O-line makes MIA's look like 5 all-pros.

"The hit" may have spelled the end of the Trent Green we knewIs there any indications that Green is still suffering somehow because of the hit? Obviously last year he wasn't back to what he was prior to the hit. But it will be a year, lots of time to heal, and to regain some mental confidence. It will be almsot a year when the season starts. That's different than 2-3 months. I haven't seen evidence even last seaon that he was freezing due to pressure. Nice medical staff the Dolphins have. They gave the thumbs down to Brees and the thumbs up to Culpepper . . . Culpepper wasn't worth much once Linehan left MIN. I realize that having Moss and Carter certainly helped him in MIN, but Daunte put up MVP-caliber numbers in '04 with Moss either out or limited by injury for a good portion of the season. And then he completely fell apart mentally the following season before tearing up his knee. It seems that his problem has more to do with his brain than his knee. I don't think him being benched was ever about his knee, I think they finally realized he sucks and used the knee as an excuse. I'm sure the knee wasn't 100% either but we've seen plenty of QBs play well with less than perfect knees. The QB with freakishly small hands is what he is - a deep ball chucker that can't hold onto the ball because of said hands.

CPep was always over-rated and only excelled when he had Randy Moss to throw the ball too.
