Tega
Except for that one great game last season(I forget who it was against), I didn't think Maroney looked that good. It seemed like he couldn't judge where the holes were. I know he's ranked fairly high, but what do you think of his performance last season (except for that one great game)? It seemed like he couldn't judge where the holes were. I know he's ranked fairly high, but what do you think of his performance last season (except for that one great game)? It's no secret on this board that I'm a big Pats fan, and even I wouldn't take Maroney this year in the first round. He makes a good option at RB2, but as a guy going in that 9-12 range, I think even that's too high. Can't shake the feeling that he's a relative bust waiting to happen as he tries to be The Man (and I see another 4-5 games started for Sammy Morris, like last year when he filled in fairly well for Ronnie Brown in MIA, which is why I'm surprised he's being overlooked as a must-own handcuff this year). LM indeed bounced around a lot behind the line last year and is just too fragile/unproven for my tastes as a RB, and has been wearing the red jersey all camp (just removed it for full contact), remains to be seen what happens when he starts getting hit on that shoulder. What he DOES have going for him is a tremendous offense, great skill and speed (despite those skinny-arse calves), a great defense that'll give him some short fields to work with, and a coaching staff that likes his work ethic (kid is indeed a hard worker) and is ready to hand him the reins....but again, I'm just not feeling it yet. Hoping he'll be a monster stud, of course, but..... ....LM owners, better snag Morris.
BeeR
Boom/bust written all over him IMO. I won't draft him because of it.
rajncajn
If Bill Belichick is ready to hand him the reigns then so am I. I'm not saying that I would like to rely on him as my #1 RB, but the upside that is there is well worth a #2 spot and could put up top 10 RB numbers. Randall
....LM owners, better snag Morris. Drafted him in the 2nd round and planned on getting Sammy later. Thanks.
Uncle Wiggy
I'm also a huge Pats fan and I have the same reservations. But that being said, in my 12 team league, if he's there at 2.2 for me, I'm taking him as my #2 RB. Wouldn't want to rely on him as my #1. That job will probably go to Henry. Bring Back Pat!!!
Well, since all the Pats homers are chiming in here, I guess I will as well. First off, I'm driving the LM bandwagon. I drove it last year, as some may recall. I thought he should have been getting more touches most of the season. Now we'll see what he can do. The biggest thing besides a gut feeling, and liking the way the guy runs, I can offer is the team's commitment to him. It was pretty clear last year that they were not going to bring Dillon back for this season. They had two first round picks in the draft, and lots of money to spend in FA. They passed on bringing in another veteran RB (Ahman, Rhodes, C>Brown, etc) or making a move via the draft for another talented youngster. The signing of Morris was a good one, but he was not brought in with the intention of getting the 199 caries lost by Dillon. The team is willing to let Maroney carry the load, and that's good enough for me. Now, based alone on the team that he plays for, I think it'd be tough for him to get much less than 1000 and 10. With the ability to spread the field with actual threats on the outside, he shouldn't face 8 in the box all year (ok, an exaggeration, but you get the point) And given the Pat's history of rushing tds, 20, 16, & 15 last three years, I think realistically the floor this season is more like 1200 and 12, with the boom to go higher than that. Whiskey Pimp
Hugh Pats fan here as well and a fan of Maroney. That said, I wouldn't take him in the first round either but if he's there in the 2nd I'll grab him for sure. I do get to keep him in my 2 keeper $200 budget auction for $8 this year with B Jacobs my other keeper for $2 so I'm thrilled with that bargain!!! forever in debt to mo lewis
this is what i think of his performance last season maroneys skills are best suited for a zone blocking scheme.,..and the patriots have primarily been using a man blocking power running scheme since belichick arrived....with the likes of antowain smith and corey dillon....and the pats tried to incorporate the zone blocking scheme last year...and the guys up front didnt execute it well with any consistency...and it was probably tough since they had him and dillon(and their styles) splitting carries... msaint
Hence some of my skepticism... "Sammy Morris could be a goal-line vulture for the Patriots this season, according to beat writer John Tomase (Boston Herald). New England could reportedly look to limit Maroney's workload inside the ten-yard line at least early in the season as his shoulder heals up."
