Willie Parker OUT this week - sprained knee

Tomlin just stated that Willie Parker is OUT this week, and will be re-evaluated following this week. He said it is a knee sprain, but, he wouldn't go into further detail.

Casey Hampton will also be out, and Brett Keisel will continue to be out, so, that might cause issues on the defensive line.

I guess it is time to find out what Mendenhall can provide.

...and that late 7th round pick I was forced to use on Mendenhall after taking Parker in the third suddenly feels a lot less painful than it did on draft day.

I feel bad for Parker though. He had just reestablished himself as the man. If Mendenhall plays well, it could be yet another RBBC.

What is there, like five featured backs left in the NFL?

How does Mendenhall fair against Baltimore D? Not sure he'll fair real well. Hard to also see the Steelers passing more with Big Ben ailing as well.

The ironic thing is that I was contemplating benching Parker this week because he usually struggles with physical defenses in general and the Ravens in particular. I might give Mendenhall a go and see what he can do.

Had a trade for Parker queued up that the owner accepted, he told me to propose it and then didn't go and accept it. We went to lunch, he said at lunch he'd accept it when we got back, then this news came out.

The worst part about this is how early this announcement is coming. I keep thinking back to Andre Johnson's sprained knee last year and how Kubiak ruled AJ out this early in the week. Seems likely to be multiple weeks here...

+1

the fact that there is no ambiguity, that he is definitely OUT for a game not being played until next Monday, leads me to believe that the injury is serious.

An owner in one of my leagues dropped Mendenhall this AM not too long after everyone here started speculating about the seriousness of Parkers injury. Took about me about 42 seconds to pick up Mendenhall and insert him into my lineup for this coming week. All I want is 10-15 points out of the dude. Nothing spectacular... just pedestrian numbers will be fine.

Have no idea why the guy dropped him.... but if things work out.... I will send him a thank you email. LOL

I also worry about them ruling him out this early on. Makes me think there is some more injury than what ever a sprained knee is. This really does suck for Parker and Parker owners as he was off and running pretty decent, (not taking the Philly game into account), but now this money wrench could cause all sorts of things to happen down the road. This may be the door opening that Mendenhall needs but I personally don't think it will play out that way. This could be the opening to all sorts of RBBC. One thing that I can't help but wonder is why we didn't see just a little bit more of Mendenhall during the Philly or Cleveland games. I mean I don't recall seeing him in at all during the Cleveland game and I don't recall seeing him in but two times during the Philly game.

I may pick up Moore to use as a flex this week where I am in a corner because of byes and now the loss of Parker.

Would it be too far stretched to say that... this first week is just a precaution... I'm not saying that it isn't a serious injury because it seems that way.. but I think they value Parker a lot and are just making sure he doesn't come back too soon.

I'm sure that it wasn't just because of Mendenhall's fumbles that kept him from getting any carries... They believe in Parker and gave him the full load (despite what everyone thought of there being an RBBC) ... I think that when he's healthy he will get the full load again.
