  1. 1. Is Tom Brady an elite fantasy quarterback in 2010?

    • Shhh! If others want to treat him as a second-tier guy, I?m more than happy to take advantage

    • He?s good, but not elite; the one big year, supermodel wife and Boston hype have him overrated

    • An aging Moss, a gimpy Welker, questions along the offensive line... I don?t see this season ending well for Brady

There seems to be a general consensus among fantasy football drafters regarding the elite quarterbacks this year; in some order they tend to be Brees, Rodgers, and Manning. What about the guy who’s just three years removed from the NFL record for passing touchdowns in a single season? Tom Brady is not only not cracking the top tier of fantasy QBs, he’s not even at the top of tier two as Tony Romo has a higher ADP.

Maybe some owners are still bitter about being left holding the bag in 2008 when Brady went down with a season-ending injury just one quarter into the season. But aside from that aberration, Brady has been a model of consistency: while his 50-TD campaign is his only season with more than 28 touchdowns, he’s had 28 thrice since 2002 and at least 23 in every year since aside from 2008.

Is it Brady’s weapons that have some backing off ever so slightly? Does Tom Terrific’s value hinge on whether or not you believe Randy Moss is still an elite receiver or past his prime, on if you think Wes Welker is all the way back from his torn ACL or will be slowed by the injury, on Brady’s ability (or lack thereof) to create viable fantasy targets out of rookie tight ends and unproven receivers? Or is it the Justin Bieber-esque haircut?

That did it for me or maybe it's the Huddle rankings that have started a coo.

Truly, I think it's a combination of things. I think Brady has lost value in the eyes of many because of his own play after his knee injury and how that scared people off. I think some have in the past and even more are doing so now, and that is questioning what Moss will really continue to bring week in and week out. And of course the Welker injury also has people leery as he's Tom's go to guy (although Edelman does a nice job as well). I honestly believe that Brady still belongs right up there with Rodgers, Brees and Manning in the tier one. Alright maybe Rodgers a bit by himself but seeing Brady ranked below Romo, Schaub and Rivers makes me scratch my head too.

Tier one no doubt, I very rarely take QBs early in drafts, but have found myself with Brady twice so far this year when he fell to a place where the value was just too good to pass.

1 year off of major knee surgery he throws up 2nd bests in yardage and TDs, I find it hard to believe he'd slide back from those numbers

I think he's falling into that zone where you are more concerned about other positions and you know you can get a comparable QB 1 or 2 rounds later. Favre,Kolb and come to mind that I would rather have over Brady based on ADP.

i think tom is a terrific value this year in the late 3rd or early 4th....ive never had the chance to own my boy....this year im hoping to target him in those spots if i get a chance....i still think he belongs in the rodgers, brees, peyton tier...and could easily perform just as well as those guys....

its his 2nd year back...hes starting to regain that pocket presense that made him so dangerous....and i think hell be more comfortable with bodies flying around his knee

the schedule is tough...but thats not really a concern for him fantasy wise.......i think at worst...hes right around his numbers from last year....and thats just with a healthy moss and edelman, and welker....but i think he has alot of upside here.....as i mentioned in another thread....the key for him i think is a reliable 3rd option....something stallworth and gaffney provided in prior years....that he really missed last year....galloway was a complete bust....just a guy with straight line speed who couldnt pick up the complexities of the offense...they also used sam aiken there too....but hes just a special teamer....brandon tate looks likes hes back, physically, from the torn knee and problem last year......the only concern is if hell know what he needs to do and where he needs to be on a consistent basis.....the physical tools are there.....and if he can become a reliable 3rd guy....watch out

and then theres the rookie TE's....rob gronkowski and aaron hernandez.....gronk was a 1st round talent but he missed 09 because of a back injury and surgery....and he slid....this guy is a complete te...receiving skills and a damn good blocker.....he made a nice td grab the other night against the falcons...just outrunning his guy on a seam route and making a nice catch after they split him out wide...really showing his versatility

hernandez is a guy that was probably a solid 2nd round talent...mostly because he isnt viewed as a classic, hand on the ground, te....and he slid due to some Josh Gordon issues(on a related note....a boston based website obtained a picture of him at a dave mattews concert early this summer in CT....a couple fans sent it in after they asked to take a pick with him....they said hernandez made it a point to ask them to put their drinking cups down before taking the pic because he didnt want to be seen with that in the pic....sounds like a kid who knows his career and future is on the line and under a microscope with every move)....this kid is a matchup nightmare for linebackers...they move him all over the field....split wide....in the slot....h-back role.....hes been the star, and talk, of camp so far i think........i think the patriots may have struck gold with these two and may have found themselves witten and dallas clark......gronk is 21 and hernandez is 20........

if the young TE's are ready to contribute...and tate is ready to assume his role....this offense can be scary good....and if welker can make it close to all th way back....thats just even more....even if welker is eased back slowly, with edelman picking up some of the slack early, and welker can eventually be back close to where he was a litte later in the year....this offense will be very tough to stop....alot hinges on some of these younger guys developing.....but they look pretty good so far....i doubt well ever see an 07 year from brady....but i think he could easily peform as well as any of the 3 guys ranked ahead of him....and i could see him outperforming those guys if things shape up right....making him a real good value for where hes ranked and been going in mocks

I don't know how sold I am on the idea that there are comparable QBs later in the draft but I totally get the bold section above, especially with the way I've been leaning player wise in the first couple rounds. I really like the idea of getting him late 3rd/early 4th but it just doesn't look like I can afford to go QB there.

I just took him at 4.03, right after Romo and Schaub went of the board. Rivers was still left but I don't see him putting up similar numbers this season. Plus, he went soon after and wouldn't have made it to my 5th round pick.
