keggerz
These numbers are for teams that had the same 11 players on the field in 2012. Offense: The Falcons led the league with the same 11 guys on the field for 132 plays...The Saints ranked #2 with 124 plays. The only other teams with 100+ plays were the Buccaneers (110) and the Cowboys (102). The Falcons had an average gain of 6.48 yards on those 132 plays. (I don't have average gains ranked yet) The Jets were last in the league with the same 11 guys on the field for just 19, yes, NINETEEN plays. The Steelers ranked 31st with 28 plays. The Jets had an average gain of 5.26 yards on their 19 plays. Defense: The 49ers led the league with the same 11 guys on the field for 70 plays....The Cardinals ranked #2 with 51 plays. The Giants had the fewest plays with the same 11 on the field on D with just 13 plays. The Cowboys ranked 31st with 14. If anyone wants to know the numbers for other teams just ask and I'll post them. Edited August 9, 2013 by keggerz

stevegrab
How many total plays in a season does a team run on average? 400, 500 more? Just looking for a frame of reference with these numbers. Also curious if you were going somewhere with this analysis or just random thoughts (you usually have a specific reason behind looking into numbers). MikesVikes
Looks like the Falcons had 1021 offensive plays and the Bucs had 1008 last year. That's not a very large percentage of the same number of players in on plays.
MikesVikes
Is that the same players that played the first snap of the season? I'm sure that teams had a larger group of players that shared plays together but were not considered "the" players to be considered as counted. Grogansghost
Just curious Keggerz - was there a really strong offense that ranked closer to the bottom in terms of this "same 11" stat? Or were there any bad offenses that had a high "same 11"? (seems unlikely, because if the starters weren't getting it done you'd expect some benchings) It would be interesting to see where a team like the Pats fell in terms of "same 11" because of their TE injuries last year. Bier Meister
so.... how do we know if this is due to scheme/personnel management vs injury?

I haven't looked at it that in depth yet. so.... how do we know if this is due to scheme/personnel management vs injury? The only way to tell is by knowing the situation and looking at each one individually. As it stands now this was nothing more than a, WOW, look at that disparity exercise...however, what it might turn into is a "this grouping of guys produces X yards/play" but that is going to take a ton of time to massage. And that is probably time I don't have right now. Edited August 9, 2013 by keggerz
