SLAYER
Say perhaps the Sox stumble finish third in the division and miss the palyoffs. Will the Nation fall apart? No seriously will the Nation forgive, blame it on injuries and Manny. Use Manny as a scaprgoat and let him walk. Will the Nation demand more than that? Francona's job? Will the Nation be abck for 09? AtomicCEO
You are really accusing Sox fans of being bandwagon after we maintained one of the most popular teams in baseball through an often embarrassing 91 year drought. epic fail you should probably go back to whatever location outside of NY that all the most annoying Yankee fans come from and regroup. No seriously I'm not accussing the die hards but you must admit they were a lot of BW. But will they be satisfied with letting Manny go or will they demand more. In PA the "real fans" to bandwagon fans ratio is about 50-50. They'll all leave RSN as soon as shiny flashy new uniform comes along

He's the same streaky inconsistent fielder he's always been, except now he's a two-time world champion. When he's doing bad, you hate him because he doesn't even look like he's trying. But then he starts doing really well, and you realize that he's not trying then either. I like him. He gives the team personality.

Charles
quick question, what would a person be considered if he were a Red Sox fan up until they won the world series, then he wasn't? One could argue that "the curse" was "the cause" of a lot of these BW fans, but if all it took was a championship for those people to sever their alliance, then what? AtomicCEO
You really think they will re up him for $20 mil next year. The last time there was a situation like this, they said "Go test the waters, Manny, and see what you can get." He couldn't find anyone that would pay his as much as the Sox, so he took what he could get.
AtomicCEO
"The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me," Ramirez said. "During my years here, I've seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them. "The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy," Ramirez added. "I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price, and I don't have peace here." Meh. If he thinks he really being mistreated by the Sox, then he should go to another market and see how much happier he is there. I seriously doubt he will be treated even close to this well anywhere else. Pedro and Nomar were Gods in Boston... now they are 2nd rate players not living up to their high expectations. That should be the lesson Manny is taking. Oh well. I still hope it all works out.
peteteacher2001
I am a HUGE Manny fan and agree with Atomic. If he wants out that bad, I think the Sox should trade him. Get some stud prospects from someone like the Marlins. As far as the question for RSN, It would take more than a collapse this year to keep the loyal members from jumping ship. Might actually thin out the bandwagon fans but, there is no room for ifs and buts.
wildcat2334
Red Sawk nation is G-H-E-Y and any true Boston fan should effin hate dat corny chit I live in Phx which is the transplant/badwagon-jumping capital of the US and I can safely say that Red Sox Nation has taken the lead over Yankee fans as the most annoying- and it ain't even close......................... Bring Back Pat!!!
I'm ready to drive down to Fenway and pack Manny's bags myself, if it gets this deal done faster. And this is not about one thing. The Sox, and Sox fans, have been apologizing and making excuses for Manny for the last four years (or more). Let's take a look at the facts: -Manny signed 2nd largest contract in MLB history in '99 -Manny helped team win 2 World Series rings -He has demanded to be traded twice, and was even put on waivers, but no team in baseball will take on the salary. Yet he wants a longer contract? -Manny is easily the worst fielding OF in the league -He hits well only when he's happy, and more and more he's happy less and less. -He's 36 years old and expects a team to pick up a two year option at $20 mil or sign him to a four year deal when he's still under contract and making $20 mil allready? Um, yeah, good luck with that. -He has twice opted out of the starting line-up in games against the Yankees, with imaginary injuries. It's no coincedence both were started by Chamberlain, a guy Manny hasn't been able to hit yet. -If a ball doesn't make it into the outfield, he doesn't run. And even then, if it's in the air, he stands and watched it. I couldn't even count the number of times he's turned a sure double into a single, or a triple into a double. Disgusting to watch. -And finally, anyone who watched the latest series against the Angels and thinks that his horrible attitude hasn't effected this team is crazy. He's got to go and he's got to go now. Good bye, good luck, and good ridance. I'll enjoy laughing my ass off watching baseball tonight as he 'legs; out a single in a marlins uniform. Jason Bay and Jack Wilson is what I'm hoping for...

Czarina
For the most part I found Manny's antics amusing...but it took a turn this season, especially when he pushed the travelling secretary around (literally) during one of his hissy fits. Fighting with Youkilis was uncommonly bad form too, though it was glossed over. Bet we'll hear some more about that in the next few weeks now.. I think we gave up too much to bet Bay, but it just goes to show you how DONE the Sox management was with Manny.
Bring Back Pat!!!
if you think the Sox are'nt gonna miss that bat in a big way, I think you're nuts. The bat is only one aspect. Will Bay match him production for production? Nope. But Manny was 22-68 this year, Bay is 22-64 playing with DOUG FREAKING MEINKEWCZ hitting behind him But the Sox just went 26-19 without Ortiz in the line-up, then get him back and go 1-5 and are 4-8 since the break. Manny's outfield 'defense' (and it's in quotes because once you see it regularly, you can't possibly call it defense) cost this team runs daily. While Ortiz was out Manny DHed and Ellsbury and Crisp were in the OF with Drew. Get ready to get used to saying "What the hell was that Manny!" every night watching him trip on his own feet out in left The Red Sox are a better team Friday night than they were Wednesday night. With Manny finishing this year, there was 0 chance this team makes the playoffs. Now there's a chance. I say again, Good bye, good luck, and good ridance
AtomicCEO
I miss him already. Good old Krusty. I used to really hate him because he never looked like he gave a crap. But I learned to like him. Anyway, good luck winning over another city of fans. I bet it doesn't happen.

They gave up a pitcher that recently had Tommy John surgery and a one time hot prospect who has'nt been able to take their 3rd base job from basically nobody. Great deal for the Dodgers IMO. SLAYER
Just remember one thing about this trade that is very important. He now has Torre as a manager and if there is a manager out there that can communicate with Manny., he is the one. Plus he is still in a penant race and playing for a contract. and seriously Atomic you didn't see this coming.
Ursa Majoris
and seriously Atomic you didn't see this coming. Anybody paying the slightest attention saw it coming. It was just a question of where he'd pitch up. Dodgers are one of a very few teams who could take him on.
