fantasyfanatic
I do not believe I am alone in thinking it is a waste to take a defense prior to the 15th and 16th rounds. I always seem to find a viable team defense there. Who are the bottom tier defenses that could surprise? Does anyone think the Bill's D will return to the level they were 2 years ago? I know I like thier special teams enough. Thoughts??
yo mama
Of the scrubby defenses, I like Jacksonville and Washington right now. Edited July 28, 2006 by yo mama
tomfin2000
Atlanta is coming pretty cheap in mocks and could be very good. I learned my lesson last year when I took the Patriots defense in the 9th. I had struggled with defenses the prior two seasons and decided that I would invest in a sure thing. We all know how that turned out. Prior to Week 2 I had picked up the Bengals on the waiver wire since I liked their upcoming schedule, and by Week 4, they were my starters and the Patriots were released. matt770
In most drafts, one guy overdrafts the Bears around the 7th round, then the Carolinas, Pittsburghs and Tampa Bays start going in the next few rounds. Then in the second to last round the rest of the teams (myself included) round out the top 10 or 12. In some formats you do have an advantage if you have a high scoring defense. Trouble is, besides the Bears, I don't think there are any teams that are a "lock" to be worthy of an 8th or 9th round pick. And nothing makes you feel stupider than chasing a defense in the middle rounds only to see that team bust (see Baltimore & New England last year). I much prefer to go after 2nd or 3rd year sleeper WRs and backup RBs in those middle to late rounds. Then around the 14th or 15th I'll take my D, and I'll keep an eye on the teams left on waivers to see if any of them get hot. Cincy was a good example last year, they had all those INTs and were a solid D for most of the year, and they went undrafted in a lot of leagues. Sometimes if I can afford the bench spot I'll carry two D's and start them based on matchups.
tonorator
i absolutely take my K and D in the last 2 rounds. i usually pick the one that is most depleted first.
wildbluefan
I plan to wait until the 13 th round or so, and grab the NY Giants, they are "flying under the fantasy radar" with the sack- happy defensive ends and nice additions to their defense (Arrington, Madison , etc) !! I agree, I really like the Giants this year especially in sack-friendly formats. Their only downside may be their schedule (they will likely give up a lot of points).
