wiegie
It was 18 years ago today that the man stood in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square. If you have an hour or so to kill, I would strongly recommend watching the Frontline program on this story. It can be found online here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/tankman/

godtomsatan
The only solace I take in the destruction of freedom and liberty in such a brazen and disgusting manner is my comfortable shoes.

Is that the gist of it? Greed is what it was all about? I don't think so. I think they wanted freedom and instead (like the show said) they made a deal with the devil to keep Communism, but be able to buy Levis and Ipods. The guy standing in front of the tank and the people that died would be shocked at that. It was social change, not economic change they were fighting for IMO.
