WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM SATURDAY TO MIDNIGHT

CST SATURDAY NIGHT.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS UPGRADED THE WINTER

STORM WATCH TO A WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM

2 PM SATURDAY TO MIDNIGHT CST SATURDAY NIGHT.

SNOW OR SLEET WILL DEVELOP LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND INCREASE

IN INTENSITY BY SUNSET. SOME SNOW OR SLEET ACCUMULATIONS ARE

LIKELY BEFORE THE PRECIPITATION CHANGES TO FREEZING RAIN SATURDAY

EVENING. ONCE THE FREEZING RAIN BEGINS THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR

SEVERAL HOURS OF FREEZING RAIN WHICH COULD RESULT IN ICE

ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF A QUARTER INCH.

POTENTIALLY COMPLICATING THE SITUATION WILL BE THE INCREASINGLY

STRONG SOUTHEAST WINDS LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND SATURDAY

EVENING. SOUTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS

TO 40 MPH SATURDAY EVENING. WHERE ICE DOES ACCUMULATE ON TREES

AND POWERLINES...THE STRONG WINDS WILL GREATLY INCREASE THE

POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT TREE AND POWERLINE DAMAGE.

NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE. PERSONS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD

STOCK UP ON NON-PERISHABLE FOODS...CANDLES...AND MEDICATIONS IN

THE EVENT OF A PROLONGED POWER OUTAGE. ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF ICE

ACCUMULATION ON UNTREATED ROADWAYS CAN MAKE TRAVEL NEARLY

IMPOSSIBLE. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE STORM BEGINS TO PREPARE!

TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING BY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT WITH

ICE MELTING AND IMPROVING CONDITIONS EXPECTED BY SUNDAY MORNING.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...

SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO

POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

Got cranking in Milwaukee area at about 11ish Central time.

Is it just me, or do blizzards result in the following:

- EVERYONE runs to the grocery store for supplies on some sort of assumption that they will be snowed in for a week or two

- random people who would normally be sitting at home decide to get out and drive around to nowhere in particular.

A grocery run and trip to the library just took me in the 2 hr neighborhood; normally it'd be about 45 minutes.

That's exactly what I was wondering Chavez, so true. I have not left my condo today but headed out to the Bucks game tonight. Thank goodness I only live about four minutes from the Bradley Center.

Jesus - I didn't know there was another Madisonite here. Where do you live? Do you want to be friends?

Oh, so you'll be friends with the Madison people but you won't drive an hour for Milwaukeeans. I see how it is. :D

Well, not much else going on tonight...how about I drive over?

:D If you drove for an hour tonight, you might make it out of the city limits.

Besides, I have the wife's company Christmas party. Hopefully her boss breaks his annual tradition of spilling a drink on me.

Meh the roads were not too bad. The parking lots were ice skating rinks! Just got back from a great German dinner. Duck, liver dumpling soup, potato pancakes, dumplings, etc.. Not to mention a couple of glasses of Lieb Frau Milch! :burp: The roads were fine. Driving was easy! :D

Did I mention the wife drove? :D
