How do you rate the candidates...

Just wondering as to peoples' order of preferences....

me...

01) Bloomberg - I love the guy

02) Edwards - Best on the left IMO. Seems the most genuine and least hateful. I also believe in taking care of special interests.

03) Obama - I like the new direction he offers. He does not have the experience, but that's what advisors are for.

04) Huckabee - I like the guy. I like his stance on the abortion issue. I am pro-choice, but marginally. I like how he believes that being pro-life means being pro-life all the childs life.

05) Clinton - Best of the worse. I don't like the polarization she brings, but I believe I will like the world better with her than with those that I have listed after her.

06) McCain - Lost respect for him when he spoke at Faldwell's school. Became a sellout to me at that time.

07) Romney - There's something I just don't like about this guy. I cannot put my finger on it. Just seems like a typical politician to me. I know it is a stupid way to look at things though. So... no real reason here.

08) Thompson - I don't like his stands on issues. I don't like his policies - but he seems like a straight shooter. He seems trustworthy to me.

09) Richardson - This guy is way out of his league.

10) Ron Paul - I like a lot of what he is saying, but I think that he'd want to change too much and people would suffer because of it.

11) Rudi - scares the heck out of me. He's seemed dirty as a mayor, but he did get the job done. I don't know that he has any objectivity on the war issue. Too close to it, too emotional. Every reason that the Bush people were throwing out not to vote for McCain go 10x for Rudi. I also don't know what all he did during 9/11. He was there, but so were many many others. He also had body guards and cameras and access to places others did not. Bloomberg was the guy who put the city back together.

Exactly what the Republicans want, for Bloomberg to jump in as an Independent and leach votes from the Democrats a-la Nader. A vote for him will put the Republicans in office. :D

Independents classically siphon from Democrats, as they are less likely to lock step with a party candidate.

Bloomberg is a moderate, was a lifelong Democrat before switching to GOP for his first mayoral run.

General Election that I would most hope for:

Dem. Hillary Clinton vs. Rep. Fred Thompson

If Hillary gets the nod, I think that just about anyone opposing her in the GE will win easily. Since I like Fred the best, I would hope that he would be the one lucky enough to cash in on that scenario.

General Election that I would most fear:

Dem. Barack Obama vs. Rep. Mike Huckabee

If Obama gets the nod, I think he is charismatic enough to get a ton of cross-over votes and undecideds. At the same time Huckabee (or McCain for that matter) being the Republican nominee would tick off so much of the GOP base that they would either stay home, or cast their vote for the ever present Ron Paul. Either way, in this scenario Obama wins big.

could be, but we'll never get past this broken 2 party system if we don't try.

I am not voting AGAINST someone unless its Rudy...

If Rudy is nominated and Bloomberg jumps in the ring, I would have to go for whoever the left puts up.

Otherwise - I would vote Bloomberg regardless

:D right. tell that to ross perot and george hw bush.

bloomberg would pull a LOT more from the republicans if they nominate someone like huckabee. i could possibly see him pulling more from the democrats if the republicans nominated a relative centrist (like mccain) and the dems nominated hilary (who just inspires a lot of negative feeling). comparing bloomberg with the socialist nader is absolutely retarded.

for me it would probably be:

1) mccain

2) giuliani

3) romney (would have been ron paul until yesterday when i saw pretty definitive proof that the guy is a racist nutjob)

4) richardson

5) clinton

6) obama

7) thompson

8) edwards

9) huckabee

edit to add: bloomberg is intriguing, but until he actually throws his hat in the ring and i learn more about him, i don't really know where to rank him.

I know you're a Thompson guy, so I hate to break it to you but Fred is toast. He's in way over his head and has proven to be uncharismatic and a lazy campaigner. His heart does not appear to be in this race at all. I would LOVE for Thompson to be the GOP candidate. Any of the remaining top DEM candidates would wipe the floor with him. Even Hillary.

have to agree with that. the guy seems to me like he's only running for president because he lost a bet or something. i can't really say i dislike him, i just can't see anything about him that would inspire me to want to vote for him.

Well, that may be. I think Iowa and New Hampshire are not really all that representative of the nation at large though. If he can't win in teh South very soon, then I'm sure he will bow out. Until then, I think he still ahs as much chance as anyone at this Republican nomination. That race in particular isn't even close to being won by anyone right now. Other comebacks in history have been more surprising than his would be right now (including Bill Clinton the first time around).

I did like his video response a few months back to Michael Moore regarding Cuba though. Pretty funny stuff.

Fred was even rumored to be considering dropping out right before the Iowa results and endorse McCain. I don't think he lasts the month.

If you already weren't documented as a complete buffoon, I would ask you to explain how Ross Perot's candidacy is 1992 and 1996 effected the Democrats.

He and his campaign have pretty vehemently denied that rumor and actually chalk it up to dirty politics from McCain.

Ranking with (positive... negative):

1. Romney (fiscally-conservative, border security a priority, healthcare through the private sector, experience as governor and CEO a plus... not "entertaining" enough for some people and too bad he flip-flopped to get elected governor)

2. Guiliani (similar to Romney on the economy and border, good executive experience, tough on crime... mess of a home life not a plus)

3. Huckabee (charismatic/geniune/nice guy, fiscally-conservative, strong enough on illegal immigration... "fair tax" idea won't fly and invoking Jesus/scripture every 5 min will cost him votes)

4. McCain (war hero, great human being, tons of experience in D.C., wants to cut spending, can work with Dems... can also be a little spineless at times, old)

5. Thompson (economy and border positions are where I want them to be... doesn't have much to offer outside of that)

6. Obama (charismatic/geniune/nice guy... socialized healthcare and tax increases are a huge turn-off for me)

7. Hillary (the best I can say is that she won't fulfill the fiscally-liberal promises she's making... negatives are well-documented)

8. Paul (getting rid of income tax would be great... it would also be impossible right now, and getting rid of the Federal Reserve and the EPA would be stupid)

9. Edwards (nice hair... poverty pimp tax-the-rich-and-middle-class demagogue hypocrite who lives in a giant mansion)

10. Richardson (he's a Yankees AND Red Sox fan... sounds like a complete moron whenever he opens his mouth)

(Edited for McCain)
