Record warm winter for northern Europe

I watched an interesting show on the National Geographic Channel last night titled: Aftermath: Population Zero .

Imagine if one minute from now, every single person on Earth disappeared. All 6.6 billion of us. What would happen to the world without humans? How long would it be before our nuclear power plants erupted, skyscrapers crumbled and satellites dropped from the sky? What would become of the household pets and farm animals? And could an ecosystem plagued with years of pollution ever recover? Aftermath: Population Zero asks these hypothetical questions and more to envision a world we'll never see.

Next time it airs is: Thursday, March 20, 6P

I reccomend it! :brew: It is clearly a hypothetical and does not assume the cause for the disappearance of humans (I think, I missed the first 15 minutes), but it was very interesting and ties into this discussion as an ancillary very well.

You do know the term Facist was coined by Mussolini and described corporations running the government don't you?... :D ...

...Italian fascism which Mussolini was amongst the founders, valued nationalism, corporatism, militarism, social progress and anti-communism combined with censorship and state propaganda...

It amazing what Exxon funded fake scientists can do to confuse everyone. They are just like the defense atty's that distort and confuse to create reasonable doubt. :D

Do you know the difference between weather and climate? Educate yourself.

Don't know where you get your info, but... Corporations running the Government? Where the he[[ do you get that? Unless of course you meant...

The word "corporatism" is derived from the Latin word for body, corpus. This meaning was not connected with the specific notion of a business corporation, but rather a general reference to anything collected as a body..

Historically, corporatism or corporativism (Italian: corporativismo) refers to a political or economic system in which power is given to civic assemblies that represent economic, industrial, agrarian, social, cultural, and professional groups. These civic assemblies are known as corporations (not necessarily the business model known as a 'corporation', though such businesses are not excluded from the definition either)... But, I know you didn't. :D

Shall we really dissect this post? OK! I'm game!

1. Mussolini defined fascism as being a collectivistic ideology in opposition to socialism, liberalism, democracy and individualism. He wrote in The Doctrine of Fascism:

Anti-individualistic, the fascist conception of life stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only insofar as his interests coincide with those of the State, which stands for the conscience and the universal will of man as a historic entity.... The fascist conception of the State is all-embracing; outside of it no human or spiritual values can exist, much less have value.... Fascism is therefore opposed to that form of democracy which equates a nation to the majority, lowering it to the level of the largest number.... We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the 'right', a Fascist century. If the nineteenth century was the century of the individual we are free to believe that this is the 'collective' century, and therefore the century of the State

Therefore, the Gore/eeeevil human camp IS a facist position. Those who fail to fall into lock step with the dogma are chastized. Even for those like me that are striving for the same ultimate goal, a cleaner environment, though for different, non-alarmist reasons. This is clearly a "trust the government, we know what is best for everyone" ideology. Sort of like the "Super Delegates" of the Democrat Party. :D

2. There is little doubt that opposite position funding has come from many sectors. It is disingenuous to make this claim and fail to acknowledge that there is big money being poured into the Kyoto position as well. There has been an evolution of "green" technologies and companies whose survival depends on the policies that have evolved from this convention (clearly a good thing!). There are also non-funded, scientists from all over the world who are skeptical. There is by no means, a consensus. Unless, once again the above facist position is applied to them as well and they are redefined as "quacks" since they oppose the current dogma associated with Kyoto.

3. (Worth re-quoting)

Do you know the difference between weather and climate? Educate yourself.
yawn: (Though H8 does not need defending)

This is the same as conservatives trying to redefine themselves as "traditionalists" or liberals as "progressives" . When one starts to fail you, change the rules or terminology to more conveniently fit your position. A symantical argument.

Climate is the average and variations of weather in a region over long periods of time.

The weather is the set of all extant phenomena in a given atmosphere at a given time. It also includes interactions with the hydrosphere. The term usually refers to the activity of these phenomena over short periods (hours or days), as opposed to the term climate, which refers to the average atmospheric conditions over longer periods of time. When used without qualification, "weather" is understood to be the weather of Earth.

So, climate is the culmination over a long period of time averaging the weather from moment to moment. Who do we allow to assign the time frame to be looked at? Do we trust them to look at a big enough sample to make the conclusions significant? Do we take them for granted, or do we exert our individualism and skepticism in trying to find a greater truth? The flaw here is that this whole line of attack lables as heretic those that have not consumed the Kyoto Kool Ade when they are sarcastically or directly observing current weather conditions that contradict "Global Warming". The whole, "You're wrong because WE are really talking about climate change." thingy. The problem was in the original position taken by calling it, "Global Warming".

Had they started off with a term like "Athropogenically Induced Climate Change", and not been so alarmist (like the seas rising 20 feet  ) or so facist in their dogma, there would have been much better buy-in. Things like air quality, visibility and acid rain are tangible things that can be pointed to in support of negative antropogenic influences on the environment and incorporated in a strategy to attack the entire issue.

That must have been one hell of a law school. You've convinced me that you're an expert. :D

Hey... you did spell law correctly though... so they did some fine work.

By the way, did I mention that I'm a climett ecspurt? I know all about the whether and the climett, so you should listen to me.

I was not the one proporting to be an expert. The comment was that the judge was not. How did he know this?

I am also a dyslexic. I was lucky enough to be in the first age group range where it was being identified and strategies for those who are afflicted with it were being developed to overcome it. I always struggled in school and it wasn't until college that I got some advice on how to recognize and deal with it. Hey, I have trouble knowing if Dog exists. :D:D

I have always had trouble with spelling and the advent of spell check has helped me greatly. I don't really bother using it here, but if you are so hung up on selling as opposed to content, I will type everything in Word first. :D I have always had trouble passing the written part of exams where dictionaries are not allowed, not for content, but for spelling. :brew:

Ummmmmm, there was a trial with experts from BOTH sides presenting. And you presume way too much. You have a link showing the preciding judge knows nothing about science? My first degree was Pre-Med - Biology, I went into law enforcement and have since passed the bar "just because" knowing the law makes me better at my job. A guy in my unit also just passed the bar and his first degree was in Math.

Nice rebuttle though!

Oh, no wonder yer such a tool. Youre a cop. Thanx fer clearin that up officer. :D

Hey. No problemo! :D And this tool will go to work every day, risking NOT going home to my family, so you and your family can live in safety. You may not understand the calling, even resent it, but I could have done other things with my life. I chose however to give back to my community and country. How 'bout you?

When I have the chance, I also work towards a cleaner world for our children to grow up in also. How 'bout you? Or do you just snipe and do nothing? Don't answer here, answer in the mirror.

I served my time protecting my family and yours in the VA National Guard. Are you Fairfax, Prince William or State? I'm sorry, but PWC cops are just tax collectors with guns. When I visited my Moms in Woodbridge this xmas I was amazed at the ammount of speed traps, check points and just general police presence around town. I was harrassed constantly when I lived in VA by the fuzz. I havent been pulled over once in teh 6 years I've been in Fla. I guess Florida gets its tax dollars from tourism, not tickets.

So, um,, uh, how does it feel being owned by a dislexic JD who's ambition only took him as far as sitting behind a computer and looking at/for kiddie porn all day?

Ok

A quick search for your article's author shows that he really dislikes them dang liberals! :spit:

I wish you could be more successful by citing real facts instead of conservative pundits all the time. It hurts me to see you struggle so.

The article you quoted is written by a right wing Christian editorialist and the only really valid conclusion it drew was that one scientist didn't think the short term warming was significant. I haven't really read McBoog's article because I've seen him link some anti-global warming propaganda that would make the likes of Michael Moore blush. Regardless anyone can cherry pick valid scientific articles that contradict the overwhelming scientific consensus. That is hardly pwning anybody.

Yeah, but the hard data is not generated by the author. And the author, from H8s article fairly states,

I'm not saying for sure the models are wrong and the Argos and satellites are right, only that in a debate as critical as the one on climate, it would be nice to hear some alternatives to the alarmist theory.

Unless you are completely closed t alternative information about what is really happening, then I don't think the hard data from the article can be ignored.

I have seen this basic info produced in a variety of publications over the last few weeks from "green" sites to skeptics.

Once again, I am not a doubter that something short term is happening and that being environmentally friendly is best for all of us regardless of Climal Warnging. I do question the severity of what it is and alarmist approach to dealing with it.

I really don't participate in these discussions to "pwn" anyone. This is a topic that I really am interested in from all angles and am having trouble buying into the alarmist point of view. I don't discredit everything they are concerned about, just the approach.

Unfortunately, it is one of those with us or against us debates for the sky is falling side, even if your ultimate goal is the same outcome! :D
