dmarc117
http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/chi...1,5582332.story After an absence of nearly 100 years, absinthe is back -- with a vengeance. The lifting of the U.S. ban, which dates to 1912, has opened a floodgate. Four brands of the anise-flavored liqueur with the sinister reputation are already on the market and nearly two dozen await approval anyone ever partake? Pope Flick
I passed while in czech, and have heard stories from friends who have tried here in LA, and am not really interested. I don't think it's the "real" thing anyways in the classical sense. Plus, it's pretty much low grade poison from my understanding.
dmarc117
sounds like it..... The strong taste of absinthe nearly requires it never be drunk neat or, worse yet, in shots. "You might as well inject Novocain directly into your tongue," said Nathan-Maister.

piratesownninjas
Absinthe has been in the market for years now. The difference with the ones here opposed to overseas is wormwood. My friend picked some up in Amsterdam and mailed it to me. Four of us drank the bottle which was around a 1.75L or so. It had a spearamint flavor mixed with nastyness. I didn't experience any hallucinations, although after a glass or two I had trouble remembering my address. My friend however, did try to start a fight with a swimming pool. Kid Cid
There a very gray area here. You've always been able to buy and ship to the States, just not sell it here. So if you want the real stuff, just follow the little green fairy. http://www.greenfairy.org/

Lousy smug swimming pools. I hate them so much.
Dr. Love
My fiancee, who doesn't handle liquor all that well to begin with, got absolutely sh*tfaced on the stuff last week. She was amazingly functional the next day, though.
