Taylor King leaving Duke

Shades of Shavlik Randolph. Talented scorer with a bit of size comes to Duke and Coach K tries to turn him into an enforcer. He's established a really bad habit of doing this and it is going to cost him blue chips down the road. I mean, not knowing any better, I laughed my ass off when Randolph went to the NBA early. I assumed that if he had any game at all, Coach K would have let him do more than bang inside and pick up 5 fouls a game. Turns out, he has enough game to still be in the NBA. If King manages to reemerge elsewhere and be a viable scoring option, that will be shown to have happened again.

Other coaches competing for guys like this are now going to have plenty of ammo to steer them away from Duke. "You've got a great outside shot. You do realize that if you go to Duke, he's going to try to turn you into a power forward. Something you're barely big enough to compete at the college level but nowhere near enough to compete in the pros. If you play for me, we'll help you continue to develop the skills you've already shown you have."

King played at a HS that I tried to play for (parents didn't have the coin) in California. Dude has all sorts of talent - offensively - but needs to improve his defense. Guess he got caught up in a logjam there at Dook. It'll be interesting to see where he transfers: mid-major? Pac-10? I could see him coming back to the west coast (was surprised he didn't go to UCLA to begin with) to play.

Good ole Mater Dei. Another State Championship game this year, though I havent even checked to see if they one.

King has a shot, but the few times I watched him his senior year, he looked really arrogant on the court, something that will kill a prospect at the college level when you are competing against players just as good as you. It will be interesting to see if he lands back here on the West Coast. USC landed a very talented SG in DeRoazan, adding a SF, and King should be a SF, like King would help them immensley.

This was in high school. Dude would launch the ball from 30 feet with his team totally out of position for rebounding, etc. Just looked like a dooosh

Sounds just like his career at Duke.

  • 2 weeks later...

saw all I needed to see in watching King last year - you won't hear from him again.

Will be a non factor wherever he goes.......... a 3pt specialist.period.

there is a reason he is transferring- I bet coach K told him if he wanted consistent minutes it wasn't gonna be at Dook
