Guest Chappy
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsins...ml?nav=rss_blog Redskins Guarantee Portis' Contract | April 21, 2008 2:26 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsins...ml?nav=rss_blog Springs Best At Free Safety? The Washington Post is reporting that many in the Redskins organization feel DB Shawn Springs would be better off at free safety this season. Springs' IDP value would certainly go up switching spots, but it seems unlikely right now with DB LaRon Landry likely staying at free safety. Springs isn't much of an IDP roster player at the moment. | April 21, 2008 2:03 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsins...ml?nav=rss_blog (same as above) Chad Wants $20 Million? Bengals WR Chad Johnson allegedly wants a new contract in the ballpark of $20 million guaranteed from his new team if he were to be part of a trade, according to Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post. This is not all that surprising when you consider the big money that seems to be flying around nowadays. WR Bernard Berrian received a contract with the Vikings that allows him to earn $13.7 million this year and $19.2 million over 2008 and 2009. WR Larry Fitzgerald received a contract from the Cardinals that will pay him $30 million in guarantees over the next four years. Chad asking for "only" $20 million actually seems somewhat reasonable. That being said, this is a major hurdle to him getting traded. An acquiring team would need to compensate the Bengals handsomely just to pry Johnson away, while then having to pay him a significant salary increase. This matter could be a long way from resolution as a result. | April 21, 2008 12:49 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-bear19.article Urlacher Saga Continues LB Brian Urlacher, who will turn 30 in May and still has four years remaining on his deal, is boycotting the Bears voluntary offseason workout program and contemplating a training-camp holdout in search of a multiyear deal. The issue therefore has shifted from whether the Bears should pay Urlacher to keep him happy to how much that is going to cost them. Urlacher believes he has outplayed his contract and wants to get market value despite being locked up in a long-term deal. Urlacher had a productive season last year with 123 tackles, 5 sacks, a career high 12 passes defended and 5 INT's. The contract he's on right now makes him a Bear until he's 34. The Bears need to consider his age, questionable health, and reliance on athleticism to make plays if they offer him an extension in years. As long as he reports in time for the season he's great in IDP leagues because he's always around the ball. | April 21, 2008 9:40 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/f...lid=inform_artr Falcons Have Draft Needs The Falcons have plenty of draft needs including QB, LB, and TE. They are also looking to draft a RB that can help out their return unit. The position is not high on the team's list of needs in the next week's NFL draft, but they'll likely still make a selection in the later rounds. They are solid at RB with Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood. They should take a QB in Round 1 or with one of their Round 2 picks. RB Clifton Smith from Fresno State is a name that keeps popping up in relation to Atlanta. Smith probably wouldn't get many carries, but he could be a boost to their special teams unit. | April 21, 2008 9:28 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/articles...ports042108.txt Sypniewski Tore ACL Updating previous reports, Ravens TE Quinn Sypniewski tore his ACL last week in minicamps and will have season ending knee surgery. Bump TE Daniel Wilcox up your draft boards as a result. Wilcox will still be a backup to TE Todd Heap and as such will not be worth drafting, except in deeper leagues. That being said, with OC Cam Cameron's use of the TE in his offensive schemes and Heap's recent injuries, it is possible the Ravens backup TE could get some quality playing time and maybe a start or two. | April 21, 2008 7:43 AM
Seahawks21
That is a lot of money to guarantee to a running back with a decent amount of wear on his tires. That said, kudos to the Redskins for doing so. Classy move. The RB's deserve the guaranteed money later in their careers, but far too many eventually get cut instead. Randall
Saints GM Mickey Loomis admits the team has talked to multiple franchises about moving up in the draft. The Saints are believed to be targeting DT Glenn Dorsey, but they may also like the value near the top of the draft in general. If the team can't trade up to No. 2 for Dorsey, they may try to trade up a couple of spots for USC DT Sedrick Ellis as a fall-back option. I think if they stay at 10 then he is the likely pick with the way everything else is falling out.

Randall
Culpepper sucks, but he's better than the other backups on the roster. I like Dilfer as a back up and mentor. He's great in the locker room. Has he signed?

Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette I actually like Culpepper as a back up. He's nowhere near what he was before the injury, but I view him as a very good backup. I like Dilfer as a back up and mentor. He's great in the locker room. Has he signed? Dilfer would be a good mentor, but I think the season is over if he comes in. I think Culpepper would at least give you a punchers chance to win games. As far as being a mentor, we don't know what Culpepper could do as the great Raiders coaching staff didn't really give him that opportunity. I do think that Dilfer has decided to retire after the head injuries he sustained last year. I also believe that he's already accepted a position with the NFLN. Randall
You could be right, but this is from 3/23. Free agent Trent Dilfer told the congregation at Northside Christian Church in Fresno Sunday that the Raiders have shown interest in him. Dilfer played his college ball at Fresno State and heard some cheers from the audience. The Raiders haven't been very active trying to find a backup for JaMarcus Russell. Dilfer has proven a good tutor of young quarterbacks.
