Kid Cid
Did anyone else read that as the Large Hardon Collider? Gives new meaning to a sword fight.
DemonKnight
String theory doesnt really hope to disprove Einsteins theories, it consolidates Quantum mechanics and Relativity. It gives them a theoretical way to mesh. I'm actually reading a book on string theory right now called "The Elegant Universe". The author is really good at describing the theories surrounding string theory in a way that non-geniuses can understand. I have been waiting forever for this collider to be built. They have been talking about it for years now. Its kinda neat that its finally done. I cant wait to see what new stuff we figure out with this thing. millerx
I'm not a scientist at all, the closest I would have come is staying at a Holiday Inn Express.... but maybe some of you could help me understand what the excitement is about this thing. Was it made just to prove some scientific theories and increase scientific knowledge or is there something that will benefit mankind in general? I've seen some of the construction on the Science Channel and I heard the cost of this thing is around 2 billion? What's the cost /value out of this thing? Just curious. Savage Beatings
What if the Supercollider accidentally creates a tiny little black hole that then begins to swallow us all up? That would be bad... right?
