polksalet
"Initially a weak pencil-like tornado near the Bell-Williamson County line, the funnel rapidly intensified into a 3/4 mile wide multi-vortex storm at around 3:45 PM CDT. Its first damage occurred three minutes later at 3:48 PM CDT in the northwestern portion of Jarrell striking Double Creek Estates. It later moved into a wooded area before dissipating after damaging numerous trees. [11] Grass and dirt in fields near Jarrell were ripped up out of the ground to a depth of 18 in or (50 cm). When the tornado crossed county roads outside Jarrell, it ripped 500 feet (150m) of asphalt off the roads. [12] About 40 structures were completely destroyed by the tornado and dozens of vehicles were lifted in the air and tossed. There were 27 human fatalities in the Double Creek subdivision. In addition, about 300 cattle were killed by the storm. About 10 minutes prior to the main event, eye-witnesses spotted additional tornadoes north and west of Jarrell. darin3
Like I noted in another weather-related thread, we get plenty of watches/warnings here, although I don't think one has touched down anywhere close to us... at least while we've been living here. Scary stuff.
Double Agent
I remember the one in Jarrell. Anything it touched it completely destroyed. It ripped up part of the asphalt when it crossed over a road. Homes were stripped completely down to the foundation. That's one of those where you just prepare to meet your maker because if you're in its path, you're dead. I remember seeing a picture of a dog that was killed in that tornado. When they found the dog its head had been ripped off by the tornado and its hair was sucked off too.
