TimC
Atomic already has his car on Craigslist for sale. God, I hate him so.
bpwallace49
In Milwaukee, Harley Davidson was excited about this bill, as they hope to get increased motocycle sales from this. Does this apply to motorcycles as well as cars? Motorcycles get MUCH better mileage than cars, and would qualify under the MPG threshold for cars. Azazello1313
so, from what I'm reading, it would appear that in order to qualify...it's not enough that you drive an old piece of schit. it has to be an old piece of schit that gets less than 16 miles per gallon -- which is just another example of giving a windfall to people who have been doing the "wrong" thing, at the expense of those who were already doing the "right" thing. if your old POS gets 20 MPG and you want to upgrade to a new 50 MPG prius....sorry, don't qualify. but if your old V8 mercedes gets 14 MPG and you want to upgrade to a new one that gets 24 MPG, uncle sam will write you a $4500 check. if that's just too much power to give up, you can go up to 18 MPG and still get $3500. Hey, my truck is old enough so I can trade for a new one and get an additional $3500.
AtomicCEO
I dont like rewarding people with gas guzzlers. What happens to the old cars? Are they recycled into scrap metal? Or just sold to someone else... I don't get it.

A: Once again, we have to wait for the final language but it would seem that the car would be recycled so cars that are worth more than $4,500 on a trade would not be viable for this program.
