SEC=UGA
A State Department audit says millions of dollars worth of federal property assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is missing or unaccounted for. It also says the government is paying for service for thousands of unused or unassigned cell phones at America's largest overseas diplomatic post. The report from the department's inspector general to be released on Wednesday found that 159 of the embassy's 1,168 vehicles, worth $18.5 million, are unaccounted for. The report says another 282 vehicles worth $40.4 million have not been properly registered. And the audit finds that the embassy is paying nearly $270,000 per year in charges for more than 2,000 cell phones that have not been registered to authorized users. http://wap.cbsnews.com/site?t=BF06Eu4MAUWo...amp;sid=cbsnews What kind of freaking cars are these???!??!?!??!?!?!?!? The average price appears to be $115,000.... How the Penny Lane do you lose 159 Mercedes S 550's?
detlef
Dude. As a small businessman who knows I'm seriously up poopy creek if I "misplace" the equivalent of less than one of those cars, I find this news to be just a bit annoying.
Savage Beatings
Christopher R. Hill arrived in Baghdad on April 24, 2009, to begin serving as America’s Ambassador to Iraq. This guy has some splaining to to do.

matt770
Our national debt is currently $13,057,723,100,270.98. $18.5M is maybe the equivalent of a jelly bean for an average working person.

This is the view that I never can understand...I don't care what it is in comparision to the debt it is still a friggin ton of money...just like when someoone says, "welll that is only $150k out of the budget"......hey that $150k is still a lot of duckets and they do add up. Yup. A good percentage of it is just plain old waste, inefficiency and downright fraud. The gov't confiscated this money from us, they didn't earn it. And you can drive through any housing project and see how people value what was given rather than earned.

If you find $50 walking down the street, don't you blow it on crap as opposed to the $50 you actually earn that you spend wiser? Considering the Gubment doesn't earn one red penny...never has and never will....they don't care. If the Gubment had to work for it's money, it'd appreciate it more instead of just stealing it from people.
