bpwallace49
Wisconsin Drinking and driving highest in Wisconsin, survey says By Sharif Durhams of the Journal Sentinel Dec. 9, 2010 8:42 a.m. |(100) Comments Poll The survey says 23.7% of Wisconsin drivers said they had driven under the influence in the past year. Have you? Have you driven under the influence of alcohol in the past year? Yes: 44% No: 56% Total Responses: 1442 survey released Thursday indicates Wisconsin has more drivers under the influence of alcohol than any other state. According the study by an office in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 23.7% of Wisconsin drivers surveyed said they drove while under the influence of alcohol within the past year. North Dakota ranked second with 22.4% of drivers reporting driving while influenced by alcohol. Of the 10 states with the highest rates of drunken driving, five were in the Midwest - Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The survey also noted that Rhode Island has the highest percentage of motorists who said they had driven while under the influence of illicit drugs at 7.8%. About 5% of Wisconsin drivers said they had driven while on one of the drugs they were asked about, which included Josh Gordon, cocaine, inhalants, hallucinogens, heroin or prescription drugs used non-medically. I am really not surprised about this at all . . . perhaps another reason to move south?
Yukon Cornelius
pretty sure sconny has always been number one in that category as well as bars per capita.

Skippy
If .08 is the bar, then I think that those numbers are low. I am very certain that tons of people drive while over the .08 mark.
Jimmy Neutron
I am amazed that any state managed to wrestle the title from New Mexico. Crazy drunk injun is a stereotype for a reason.

MikesVikes
I drank a Six Pack in Wisconsin one time. I didn't know that would put me over.
Ursa Majoris
I think the UW students skewed the results. No-one at UW owns a car, parking costs enough to halve the national annual deficit. It's gotta be rural Wisconsin - makes the hilly parts of Tennessee look sophisticated by comparison.
Chavez
One night, a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy bar for possible violations of the driving-under-the-influence laws. At closing time, he saw a fellow stumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, and try his keys on five different cars before he found his. Then the man sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes. By this time, everyone had left the bar and driven off. Finally, he started his engine and began to pull away. However, the police officer was waiting for him. He stopped the driver, read him his rights and administered the Breathalyzer test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be. With a smile on his face, the driver replied, “Tonight, I’m the designated decoy!”
