detlef
Since H8 brought it up. I'm curious about something. Why do Christians get annoyed by the fact that people who aren't Christian want to make a point of not calling the season the Christmas Season? Wouldn't you prefer that people not bastardize the name of something that is specifically about Christ to basically encompass the whole commercial endeavor the season has become? Especially if they don't care about the baby Jesus and all that? I mean, why do you want me calling this Christmas? I don't believe in your god. "Christmas" means a bunch of people throw parties, and I'm all for parties, so that's cool with me. But wouldn't you rather I refer to it as something else given the complete lack of reverence involved on my part? Well, either that or not care at all and just worry about what you call it in your home. I can certainly see that.

bpwallace49
Ehh . . . the source is about as credible as Fox, which means . . not very reliable. Attempting to show people that their preferred news source is horribly biased never works. People prefer an echo chamber of their own belief system that just repeats what they want to hear. Whether it is stuff from Olbermann that says that the Republicans are the devil or Fox saying there is a "war on Christamas" without doing basic fact checking, they both serve to further their own agendas. It is the blind obedience that has people DEFENDING those very biased viewpoints as objective that is really sad. It is the dumbing down of America, where objective debate and discussion cannot take place without a hyper-partisan editorial woven into the fabric of the reporting. Am I surprised at the results? No. Nor would I be surprised if Fox did a survey and 80% of their respondents thought that Obama was a closet Kenyan m00slim communist socialist terrorist fist-bumper. Cause that would be their intended result of doing such a poll in the first place.

bushwacked
: Here's another way to look at the misinformation: In our poll, 72% of self-identified FOX News viewers believe the health-care plan will give coverage to illegal immigrants, 79% of them say it will lead to a government takeover, 69% think that it will use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions, and 75% believe that it will allow the government to make decisions about when to stop providing care for the elderly. But it would be incorrect to suggest that this is ONLY coming from conservative viewers who tune in to FOX. In fact, 41% of CNN/MSNBC viewers believe the misinformation about illegal immigrants, 39% believe the government takeover stuff, 40% believe the abortion misperception, and 30% believe the stuff about pulling the plug on grandma. What's more, a good chunk of folks who get their news from broadcast TV (NBC, ABC, CBS) believe these things, too. This is about credible messengers using the media to get some of this misinformation out there, not as much about the filter itself. These numbers should worry Democratic operatives, as well as the news media that have been covering this story. 72% to 41% 79% to 39% 69% to 40% 75% to 40% Yup, just a random coincidence of politically loaded questions and answers that have nothing to do at all with your typical Fox news viewer. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2009/...s-good-bad-news

In New Mexico, the new $37 million high-risk pool began enrolling individuals on July 1. They will start receiving benefits in August, including elective-abortion services, according to the state insurance department’s website. Once a deductible is paid, 80 percent of the elective abortion is covered. noncitizens H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating inthe Exchange—whether the noncitizens are legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently. on rationing, even health care bill supporters admit there is rationing, they just counter that government rationing is better than insurance company rationing. on the government takeover prediction, that is impossible to judge either way until well into the future, but many "reform" advocates, as well as critics, are on record saying this is a first step toward a single-payer system. at the very least, the correct answers to all of these questions are debatable. so whose viewers are uninformed again? bushwacked
The Pennyslvania plan, she said, is not yet up and running. The insurance commissioner is in the midst of contract negotiations. The plan will initially insure 3,800 Pennsylvanians, she said, and ramp up to coverage for up to 6,000 individuals. Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Jenny Backus said ”in Pennsylvania and in all other states abortions will not be covered in the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) except in the cases of rape or incest, or where the life of the woman would be endangered.” And the non-restriction illegal immigrant claim,( your link from August 2009); has been discussed over and over again, as in here: When we look at all of this evidence, it seems that health reform leaves in place the status quo on illegal immigration, and certainly does not provide any new benefits particularly for illegal immigrants....The best argument that we find that health reform would help illegal immigrants is that some might be able to purchase the public option — if it passes, and it might not — on the new health insurance exchange. They would purchase that at full cost. Obama said, "The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally, http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/20...egislation.html http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/st...-lied-he-didnt/ The information is out there, I guess it's "debatable;" it seems like facts be damned from the right on HC; Instigating fear for political purposes and clouding up the actual discussion has been Modus operandi from the beginning. Seems to me prattling on and on about a lot of these issues like death panels, govt. takeovers.,and Socialism makes for legitimate "debate" like Jesse Ventura's conspiracy show makes for interesting discussion. evil_gop_liars
In the midst of global climate change talks last December, a top Fox News official sent an email questioning the "veracity of climate change data" and ordering the network's journalists to "refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question." The directive, sent by Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon, was issued less than 15 minutes after Fox correspondent Wendell Goler accurately reported on-air that the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization announced that 2000-2009 was "on track to be the warmest [decade] on record." an email sent by Sammon to Fox journalists at the peak of the health care reform debate, ordering them to avoid using the term "public option" and instead use variations of "government option." That email echoed advice from a prominent Republican pollster on how to help turn public opinion against health care reform.
detlef
Here's another... Say you run a news network that is generally recognized as the GOP lap dog. Here's the thing. You're outraged because Congress has prevented a bill providing health care for 9-11 responders from even coming to a vote. There's a problem, however. All but one person voting to keep that bill from getting to the floor is in the GOP and not a single GOP senator voted to bring it to the floor. Now, they may have their reasons. Perhaps the bill was poorly written. Maybe they wanted a better bill drafted and then they'd gladly vote to help out the heros who helped first and asked questions later. Who knows? Maybe the best thing to do is look into the situation and see whether or not a better bill is being drafted as we speak and this was merely a bump in the road that will ultimately be for the best. Again, who knows? But that's not how you operate, you waive the flag and stir the chight first and worry about what is going on second. So, what do you do? Do you throw your own party under the bus for telling 1st responders to "drop dead"? Or do you just blame "Congress" and hope that nobody bothers to look into the story further. Is there any question how Fox handled this one?

driveby
The poll was conducted by Univ of Maryland. Are you two really that oblivious to the fact that dumb people tend to watch Fox News? Poll sponsor is angwy. It's time to drop Fox. "I believe no responsible company should advertise on Fox News due to its recent and on-going deplorable conduct." Dear Fox Advertiser, I agree with Tides Foundation CEO Drummond Pike: "Businesses that pay to broadcast commercials on Fox News are subsidizing Glenn Beck's television show by continuing to pump money into the network. It has become clear that the only way to stop supporting Beck is to stop supporting Fox News. "I respectfully request that you bring this matter of your company's sponsorship of hate speech leading to violence to the attention of your fellow directors as soon as possible.
