Trade Deadline

With the St. Louis Rams dealing with an 0-4 start to the season that can best be described as disappointing, there is some wonder whether or not Steve Spagnuolo can get his team turned around in time to at least make things competitive in the NFC West. Injuries have wrecked the Rams roster. The loss of Danny Amendola was a big blow to the offense, leaving a weak group of wide receivers for second-year quarterback Sam Bradford. Trade talk is happening already with the NFL trade deadline looming on October 18.

One move that has been suggested for the St. Louis Rams is acquiring Denver wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. Evan Silva at NBC Sports made the suggestion on Twitter today.

Evan Silva#Rams ought to put in call about Brandon Lloyd before trade deadline. Lloyd in last year of deal, hard to imagine #Broncos committing big $.

It's tempting to think about after watching the Rams passing game struggle mightily to start the season. Lloyd knows McDaniels' offensive system, having rejuvenated his career under McDaniels in Denver. That would give him an advantage over Mark Clayton, who returns from the PUP list after next week's game against the Packers.

If Clayton can reestablish the connection he had with Sam Bradford prior to his injury last year, he could combine with Lloyd to improve the Rams group of receivers. Lloyd has 19 catches for 283 yards and no touchdowns this season; he has topped the 100-yard mark just once, against Green Bay in week four.

Would Lloyd be available? Silva thinks he might, since he's in the last year of his contract. Denver might not be willing to put money into retaining him, and they do have former first-round pick Demaryius Thomas and Eddie Royal coming back after their bye in week six. The Rams might not have to surrender much in the way of compensation, a mid to late-round pick perhaps.

It's probably a stretch, and if the Rams do any trading, they ought to make cornerback their top priority. The other question to ask the Rams at the trade deadline, is just how much they should sacrifice with the season where it is.

The title of this thread should be changed or amended somehow.

It's like if I tweeted "Davone Bess should be traded to Chargers" and then it got posted on a FF msg board. Someone would be disappointed to see it was just John Miller (Who?) speculating out loud.

They should trade for some O-line first.

That's the thing, the Rams have SO MUCH money invested in the line now, and they're the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. That's why I made the cooment in another thread that if the Rams are in the Luck sweepstakes and trade the pick, they would probably just screw up the picks they got for him anyway. They simply can't afford to acquire different o-linemen. These clowns have to step up.
