Timmypg
I have around a 10 year old Sony surround sound system and some of the ports on my receiver don't work anymore. All of he speakers still work if you plug them in the working ports, so my question is this. Can I buy any receiver or do I need to replace it with the same kind? Also, if I can buy any is it worth buying an expensive one like Bose even though my speakers are Sony? TIA.
Chief Dick
I'm no expert but I would think you could plug the speakers into any new receiver, Sony or not. I probably wouldn't buy a Bose receiver if I wasn't going to buy the speakers that match up to it. JCDHO.
stevegrab
An expert friend of mine who deals in high end audio/video tells me "Bose is junk". Sony is a decent low end option. Any speakers should work, but the issue is making sure you have enough power in the receiver to drive those speakers. Not sure if there can be too much power or not. Timmypg
Thanks all. The cheaper the better as I just spent a fortune on a new TV.
