keggerz
http://www.cincyjung...lphins-chargers A few quick notes on the number six seed (note: we didn't include games that ended with a tie and we're fairly certain there's crazier scenarios than what we came up with). If the Baltimore Ravens beat the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Diego Chargers, the Ravens claim the sixth seed. However, even if the Ravens beat the Bengals, they're out of the playoffs if the Miami Dolphins beat the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Miami is in due to the tiebreaker based on best winning percentage in conference games. If the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets, the Dolphins are the No. 6 seed. If the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens AND the New York Jets beat the Miami Dolphins AND the San Diego Chargers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Diego Chargers are the No. 6 seed. The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a shot if the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins all lose. It would create a four-way tie and the tiebreaker per the ESPN playoff machine: Wins tie break over NY Jets and San Diego based on best win percentage in conference games. Division tie break was initially used to eliminate Miami (NY Jets wins tie break over Miami based on best win percentage in division games). Division tie break was initially used to eliminate Baltimore (Pittsburgh wins tie break over Baltimore based on best win percentage in division games). bud29
What if the Ravens and Dolphins win but SD loses? According to what keggerz posted it looks like Miami would get in because they have a higher conference winning %.

That's with a SD win...if SD loses the Ravens own the tiebreaker over the Dolphins.

justin
IF the Ravens win in Week 17 against Cincy, they'll get the final Wildcard spot if either (or both) MIA and/or SD losses. BAL would win a head-to-head (two-team) tie breaker with both MIA and SD, but MIA would win a three-team tie breaker (based on overall conference record). great odin's raven
Ravens need to win And Chargers lose OR Dolphins lose. Basically we have the single team tie breaker over both teams, but if all three end up with the same record, MIA wins the three team tie breaker. If all three teams lose and Pitt wins then Pitt takes the 4 team tie breaker which would be remarkable. keggerz
And iIf all 4 teams lose MIA gets in. Playoff machine shows that if Bal, Mia, SD and Pitt all lose that the Ravens get in, but if they all win (or Mia, Bal & SD win) that Miami gets in. I'm not sure why it's working that way. I'm not sure why it's working that way. I hadn't checked the playoff machine but believe it is accurate. Not sure what tie breakers could change for all win vs. all loss. Conference and division records would all be affected the same way. So maybe it is something like strength of schedule/victory or record in common games. Don't have time to figure it out now. sandiegoaces
If only Ravens and Dolphins win then the Dolphins get in based on conference winning %. The Ravens need the Chargers to win to have a chance if the Dolphins win. Rex Ryan may save his job with a win and I think they (Jets) will pull an upset here. sandiegoaces
My mistake. I thought that the Ravens needed lost the three team tie-breaker but won the two-team tie-breaker. After just reading NFL.com I see that I was incorrect. Thanks for pointing that out.
