i used to be in that camp, but not anymore...if the owners don't have to guarantee contracts, then the players shouldn't have to honor them, either...  Every time the CBA comes up the players have the option of pushing guaranteed contracts but it never happens. What they have is a large guaranteed bonus up front. If players are going to hold out 1 year after signing a new deal then they should only sign 1 year deals.

Grits and Shins
Â I wouldn't have a problem with that... Â Most players would have a problem with it because they wouldn't get such large signing bonuses and when an injury occurs it would have a much larger negative impact on their compensation. Bobby Brown
i used to be in that camp, but not anymore...if the owners don't have to guarantee contracts, then the players shouldn't have to honor them, either... I'm all for players renegotiating contracts before they end. He signed a 4 year guaranteed deal and tried to renegotiate in the 2nd year of guaranteed money. A deal where the original consensus opinion was Seattle paid too much. No, Kam's holdout was the dumbest hold out evah. It would be stupid until before the 2017 season. Â he signed a 5-year, $29M in 2013, with a little over half ($17M) guaranteed, which included a $5M signing bonus, so I guess you're technically right - he got his guaranteed $, then tried to renegotiate...but, again, I really can't blame him...IMO, he was stupid for returning without any concessions, and losing any leverage he might have had to get more...the guy is a beast, and it's obvious he is already helping them turn their season around... Bobby Brown
he got his guaranteed $,. Not really. He had 9$ million guaranteed for fulfilling this year and is the second highest paid strong safety in the NFL. The one guy in front of him makes 9000 more. Seahawks21
The thing is, there is zero chance he gets cut before that contract runs out. Guaranteed or not, he is going to see every penny, if not more. He isn't going to get paid though, unless his quarterback wants to share. The Seahawks just don't have any money. He's paid fine, he just doesn't make as much as Earl or Sherm, and he's butthurt about it. Really, he cost himself a mil and possibly home field for his team, over nothing. He was always going to get all that money.
the outlaw
the "best case" scenario would have been for him to continue his holdout, then get traded to the Redskins (not the G-men, as rumored), where Dan Snyder would have written him a huge check! the 'Skins have been missing that bone-jarring force in the secondary since about 2007...R.I.P. Sean Taylor...
