Skilly
Jeez Chavez, you really dug this thread up from the dead! First post was in Dec 04. Haven't seen the others, but I liked Funny Bone. Heartbreaking, almost uncomfortable to watch movie of a son trying to follow in his father's footsteps.
JoJoTheWebToedBoy
I have a tendency to lean towards the smaller films, so here is a list of these films I have enjoyed in no partictular order Memento Inside Deep Throat Layer Cake Crash The Assassination of Richard Nixon Stander Maria Full of Grace Crumb Elephant Employee of the Month The Salton Sea Spun Garden State
Chavez
Memento Layer Cake The Salton Sea 1332089 If someone missed ANY of these 3 films, RUN to your video store immediately and rent it. As to Crash, was that the recent film or the older Cronenberg flick with the same title?
montster
haven't gone through the whole thread, but anyone mention "old boy"? it's foreign (korean), but totally mind-blowing. we loved it.

Those fight scenes were classic. Although the ending was Audition-level wrong - what is it with Asian filmmakers, man?

Chavez
Latest: Dogtown and Z-Boys - great doc about skateboarding; found it way more compelling than Murderball Stalingrad - German film about the siege of Stalingrad, some of the people who made Das Boot were involved, but I don't know who or to what degree; anyway, the action was poorly done and there wasn't much of it. I wouldn't recommend it - maybe I missed something great, but I thought Enemy at the Gates had way more punch, though it was a completely different take on Stalingrad. Experiments in Terror - this one is a collection of small, indie-type short subjects. My assessment is that the experiments all failed. Avoid. Undead - spunky Aussie flick about zombie apocalypse. Not the best I've seen, but entertaining.

Chavez
Actually, I forgot I'd also recently seen Inside Deep Throat - I thought it was pretty interesting; it covered a behind-the-scenes look at the film, the impact it had on the porn industry, and the impact it had on society-at-large. Hard to believe one flick about fellatio could affect so much. The story of Linda Lovelace is unbelievably sad, though.
Ursa Majoris
The story of Linda Lovelace is unbelievably sad, though. 1377766 Is it? If you're refering to her claims of being forced to do the movie, well
Chavez
Another recent couple I forgot: Rent - I'd tried to listen to the CD but couldn't get into it; figuring that seeing is sometimes better than hearing, I snagged this one and have to give it a resounding "eh." For all the hype about it being some sort of triumphant achievement for the rock musical, it doesn't really rock. Most of the songs are pretty typical Broadway-sounding fare and I feel bad, because the play is trying really, really hard to impress you but it just doesn't. Can't hold Hedwig and the Angry Inch's brastrap. Metropolitan - a "comedy of manners" about insecure future yuppies in 1990ish Manhattan. I'd lay odds about 99% of the people around here would completely hate it. I didn't completely hate it and may give it another shot since I watched it in two sittings in which I was drunk and nodding off, but was unimpressed.
