Just the other night, an ESPN reporter indicated that Tubby should stay with Kentucky hoops rather than go to Virginia because he didn't have to worry about stringent academic standards ... nice. My daughter and I just went to a recruiting presentation on the NCAA national clearinghouse -- did you realize you can be a DI player if your teachers give you a 3.55 gpa in HS even if you get a 400 combined on the SATS???? Ouch. If you only get a 400, you shouldn't get a full scholarship to college -- you should get tutoring on how to hold a pencil!!!! C'mon, who's surprised that these athletes can't make intelligent decisions -- so much of their decision support is based in folks feeding off them. As long as kids keep getting hooked into this system with the Don Kings of the world as their AAU coaches, as their college boosters, as their posse ... we'll continue to develop players with no more ability for rational thought than Mike Tyson.
