sundaynfl
I think that wine dinners are usually a pretty good deals... a multi course dinner with food to match the wine and you get to chat with the winemaker/owner to get their views of their wine! Here's a small one that we were invited to tonight: Zelma Long Wine Dinner Table 6 will be hosting a Zelma Long Wine Dinner on Thursday, May 4, 2006. This will be a very intimate dinner with only 10 seats available in Table 6’s private dinning room. Zelma Long will showcase her wines and talk one on one to the people in attendance. There will be five wines with five courses. The main features of the event are the Vilafonte wines including both Series “M” which is a blend of Merlot and Malbec with a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc & Series “C” which is a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Malbec. Zelma co-founded Vilafonte with her husband Phillip Freese and Mike Ratcliffe in 1997. It was created to do something unique; to create South African wines designed expressly for American consumption. We will let her tell you the entire story. I think it is $160 for my wife and I. I'll easily drink that much, the food and conversation is just the gravy! Edited to add: Next week is Stag's Leap... not as excited about this one, but should be good! Seattle LawDawg
I go to quite a few. There is one wine shop that hosts dinners every couple months. He brings in a local winemaker and has a restaurant cater. They are great dinners. We also go to a couple winemakers dinners at wineries that we are members at. Again, they are catered, educational, and a lot of fun. We did one last year centered around Oregon Pinot and Mushrooms. It was fantastic. untateve
Me and my wife go to these over the summer. there's a restaurant here owned by her cousin that has one once a month. we go if the menu is good. usually costs about $150 with tip. the restaurant is closed except for the wine dinner and everyone is sat family style (although the food is not served that way.) It's usually good fun and great food/wine.
twiley
I go to quite a few. They range from 75-200 per plate. The 200 is usually black tie.

sundaynfl
Zelma was a very interesting person and let her wien do the talking for her the "C" was a litel tight and built for aging. The 03 "M" was very drinkable now and probably close to it's peak right now. It was a good wine as well and could be drank all by itself. The food pairings were excellent and very creative, one of the ingredients was bubblegum flavoring... I'll try to post the menu later. We also tried an 05 Warwick Saug. Blancth Africa, that was fantastic!! Lots of lemon/Key lime zest and granite!!!
