Chicago's Defense

Should I be worried about starting CHI every week? And, after these following injuries in last weeks game, it seemed like CHI game up a lot more yardage.

List of last weeks injuries:

Charles Tillman - CB - The Chicago Bears have lost CB Charles Tillman for 2 weeks with a sprained right ankle.

Nathan Vasher - CB - Bears starting CB Nathan Vasher is out with a partially torn groin muscle.

Vasher is expected to miss up to a month with this injury and will be replaced in the Chicago lineup by Roy Manning Jr.

Tommie Harris - DT - The Chicago Bears depleted defense took another major hit this weekend when DT Tommie Harris left the game with a sprained knee that is likely to keep him off the field for up to a month.

OK Colts homers. I also have the Bears D, but picked up the Colts off waivers after week 1. Do you, in your unbiased opinion, think they are a better start for the next few weeks until the Bears get healthier?

Colts are home against the Broncos and then home against the Buccaneers. Then they have a bye week.

Chicago is at Detroit and the at Green Bay.

Yeah. I think I would go with the Colts for a little while.

Bears are still great at LB but losing all those players at one time has got to have a big impact.IMO they will be a good defense just not a great one.If you use defense and special teams as one unit in your league, the threat of Hester taking it to the house still makes the Bears a good start most weeks.

  • 4 weeks later...

So, here we are a few weeks later and now teams are avoiding Hester. Is there any hope that these guys can turn this around? I see Harris had two sacks this weekend. Is he getting healthier? Will Vasher be back soon?

Another game with no turnovers and only three sacks isn't exactly a fantasy goldmine. Any homer insights on this?

From a football perspective, I suspect the Bears were very happy with their D on Sunday. I would certainly stick with them for now, especially if DT and ST are counted as one, as someone said earlier. Another aspect is yards and points conceded - Philly only put up 16, which will get you some points where leagues use that stat. Yards was 334, not likely to get you many points.

All things considered, is there a better DT/ST out there you can start? And will you drop the Bears D only to see someone else get the benefits?

I really don't want this to turn into a fantasy advice thread, so I will refrain from commenting on what other defenses might be available. I guess what I was really wondering is whether anybody who watches them regularly could offer opinions on why this team simply doesn't seem to be generating the kind of turnovers it did last year. Is there a problem with the scheme or is it just poor execution? They are not stopping the run and don't seem to be generating much of a pass rush. Have the injuries and free agency losses just simply caught up to them? It so happens that the league I'm in does count ST and DT combined and yards/points allowed is a factor as well. But it's tough to keep counting on the home run from Hester to carry them if they aren't going to create turnovers.

Appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
