Take him only if you're out of any other decent running back option. As a matter of fact, only take any Raven period if you're desperate. Preseason assumptions about teams often turn out laughably wrong, granted. But with their unbelievably shaky situation at quarterback, there's strong evidence that Baltimore's offense this season may go down as one of the worst of all time. Steer. Clear. Really, one of the worst of ALL-TIME? That's just a slight overstatement, don't you think? Granted, he was healthy, But Lewis in 03 racked up 2000 yards on the ground with Anthony Wright and Kyle Boller taking turns throwing interceptions and completions to the line judge. Baltimore has NEVER had great QBing, McNair wasn't lighting it up last year either. CHECK the stats. Mason STILL went for 1000 yards. These won't be the 1999-2000 Rams, but to conclude at this point that the 08 Ravens will be historically bad is not correct. McGahee put up very good numbers last year with no Qb, and now has Cameron to design better running plays. Heap is an injury risk, but could easily finish as a top 5 TE. Mason in a PPR league is still very valuable. Ray Rice has huge keeper potential. And having a QB with an arm like Flacco might make Mark Clayton relevant again. He's still buried on the depth chart, and the most he'll bring to the fantasy table is the potential for a few deep balls—followed by several seconds of profuse swearing after he drops the ball despite no one being within 10 yards of him. As for "Baltimore's offense this season may go down as one of the worst of all time," big claim for sure but if you don't think that's at least possible, you aren't paying attention. Weak OL. Weak WRs. Best (only?) RB is a totally unproven rook. Speaking of totally unproven check the QBs. D isn' t the dominating force it used to be. Variety of injuries. This is mother-in-law ugly. Remove bunch Also, there were 20 WRs over 1000 yards last year. And of those 20, only Driver and Cotchery had fewer TDs. Dude, we're paying for this (more and more each year, I might add), they are not volunteers and doing this to be nice to us. I put a ton of work into my job, too. Avoiding Ravens at all costs... McGahee, Rice, Mason, Heap whoever.... in even a 14 round draft is misleading advice. Or if he/she was just being overly negative and snarky - that doesn't qualify as entertaining or add anything in my book, it's annoying. I'd rather have a more sober, sharper analysis. PS- And to the writer, if I hurt your feelings, I'm sorry. But I really doubt you are what some shmo writes. PPS- I hate the Ravens and really hope he's right. Someone thinks lousy advice is funny, I think it's lame. That's all. Play on. But thats kind of my point - even being a top 40 WR would mean NOT avoiding at all costs....(that would mean you are probably somebody's #3). BTW good analysis, and thanks for putting up the stats - I don't think the original comment was totally exlcusive to Derrick Mason, but he's part of the offense....you took the time and thought that the writer didn't. And another disclaimer - I know how people love to jump to conclusions, in no way do I think Derrick Mason is a viable #3. But I probably would take him late enough in a draft.
