Fantasy Football TV programming

Recommended Posts

We have never had much to pick from for our fantasy fix on TV. But last year even the few programs we did have seemed to have disappeared. Anyone know of any fantasy football shows slated for this season. I'm talking about a program that is strictly FF like the one that Warren Moon was a part of a few seasons back. You would thing that with the popularity of FF we would have several to choose from.

I actually proposed a FF show to a couple producer friends of mine last year and it was shot down. Even after all the evidence I put in front of them, (number of players, money spent etc etc) it still wasn't enough for them to bite on a 30 minute show. It's amazing the amount of garbage that is on the air and FF is still viewed as a "fad" in the television world.

Unbelievable if not only because of the diversity of the audience for advertisement purposes alone

Agreed. Chris Cooley and Meatloaf were 2 of the people I had in mind for the show. And to think I just finished a movie with Tom Arnold almost 2 weeks ago. He would have been a slam dunk guest.

I remember talking to 2v and a few other Huddlers about the idea before I proposed it and was excited about them being excited. Alas

I might try again in a year or so.

espn2 had a show the past 2 years on Sunday from 11:30 to 1:00. It wasn't the greatest I've seen but it was good for players injuries and game time decisions .

Actually that show is what gave me the idea for a TRUE FF show. I detest the FF dribble that is on air, or was, right now. It's full of "No Chit" obvious recommendations that really irritated me. Getting guys from TheHuddle,FBG's and even Rotoworld to contribute weekly info to the hosts is what I was shooting for...along with numerous other content.

pitch it directly to NFLN. They've got plenty of open programming spots. And with a different and new set of sponsors, I might find Alyssa Milano attractive again.

(does anyone want to throw an empty beer bottle at their TV when the commercial airs?)

With all the damn re runs you see on NFLN you would think they would do something like this and yes next time I see that damn commercial of A Milano I might just empty my 12 pack at my 55" Sammy...lol. She does kinda look hot in that opening slo mo scene though.

You need a pretty face in their, Meatloaf and Cooley won't cut it. You need an hot Tomboyish chick that knows her football (Scooby), a cute fat meathead (Big John), and a handosme guy everyone loves to hate (Scooby's Hubby). And just one sponsor who needs a bigger market and is willing to take a chance (MFFL.com and thehuddle.com & possibly some kind of import beer).

Please feel free to insert your selections of hot Tomboy, cute fat guy and Simon Cowell type.

No kidding... seems like constant reruns of NFL Total Access along with the entire library of NFL Films videos. Not that I mind seeing past SB highlights or follies, but fresh, original content would be awesome.

The problem with FF shows is that the hosts may be knowledgeable about football, but don't understand FF very well. So you gets guys who advice drafting Manning or Brady in the top 5 picks in normal FF leagues.

They give advice that experienced FFers tune out from because they know it is nauseating garbage, and that week-end dumb-ass FFers follow and then inundate the station with complaints when their players don't perform as prognosicated (kind of like here).

Now if you had someone slightly irritating and fairly entertaining who knew a modicum of FF hosting...

You pretty much summed up my thoughts on the FF programing out there. Garbage for the experienced FF player. The reason I was thinking of Chris Cooley and/or Meatloaf, is because both are die hard FF players. I know for a fact Meatloaf rivals Henry Muto in leagues and Cooley plays IDP. I even got a feeler from Zack Wylde to do guest spots. Of course we need a knock out, die hard NFL fan bombshell as well.

This year will be a good run (job wise) for me in the industry and I'm starting to get together some "names" to form an industry FF league. Tom Arnold is already on board and Meatloaf will be contacted soon as well. I'm sure if I fill a 12 team league, I can possibly get the ball rolling for another pitch. This time with some significant backing.

When I am ready to start forming another pitch, I will revisit this topic and get advice for content from, who else, some of the most knowledgeable FF players I know. You guys/gals.

I know Vince Vaughn is a fantasy sports junkie. If you know anyone that knows him, he'd be a good candidate.

Its not a tv show but the sirius radio show that Adam Caplan and John Hansen have is really good. They used to have a tv show years back but I guess it was terminated. NFL Network had these guys on for like a 15 minute segment during Total Access on Fridays show .

And yet there I was last week flipping channels and seeing a 30 minute poker show--not a cash game or tourny--just 2 guys discussing players, events, etc. Not exactly a 'fad' anymore, is it?

Hopefully producers will see the success of the 'poker boom' and apply it to FF. I wish you all the best as you pitch some programming because there IS a market and it's growing at a ridiculous rate.

KC Joyner would be the perfect candidate to be a host or regular guest on a fantasy show. He's one of the few halfway-recognizable names in the sports media who actually CREATES fresh weekly content for the fantasy football audience. Even die-hard FFers like me can learn something new with his in-season metrics.

A segment from a FootballOutsiders dude could be good, too, for many of the same reasons. In fact, an FBO-versus-KCJ argument segment might be very entertaining.
