redrumjuice
I am wondering where all the hurricanes are they said we were gonna have? NOAA’s updated 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook calls for a 90% chance of an above normal season. There is only a 10% chance of a near-normal season, and no expectation the season will be below normal. I thought global warming took care of this? bushwacked
Why haven't there been many recent threads on GW? Many skeptics can't differentiate between weather and climate, those who don't understand the science generally focus on weather because it's something they can grasp. Last summer was the 4th hottest summer on record. About 99% of the GW threads here are started by skeptics and the weather was hot. That's why there haven't been very many recent threads on GW. driveby
Weather is what we can't accurately predict more than 48 hours from today. Climate we can predict for centuries.

redrumjuice
I understand they're hunkered down in Cancun studing this problem. They came up with a plan! In one paper Professor Kevin Anderson, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, said the only way to reduce global emissions enough, while allowing the poor nations to continue to grow, is to halt economic growth in the rich world over the next twenty years. This would mean a drastic change in lifestyles for many people in countries like Britain as everyone will have to buy less 'carbon intensive' goods and services such as long haul flights and fuel hungry cars. Prof Anderson admitted it "would not be easy" to persuade people to reduce their consumption of goods He said politicians should consider a rationing system similar to the one introduced during the last "time of crisis" in the 1930s and 40s. This could mean a limit on electricity so people are forced to turn the heating down, turn off the lights and replace old electrical goods like huge fridges with more efficient models. Food that has travelled from abroad may be limited and goods that require a lot of energy to manufacture. Less long haul flights? You mean like a bogus climate meeting in Cancun? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/copenhage...oped-world.html

McBoog
This. What's the point of discussing anything with a bunch of rocks? This. My feeling exactly. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) glossary definition is: Climate in a narrow sense is usually defined as the "average weather," or more rigorously, as the statistical description in terms of the mean and variability of relevant quantities over a period of time ranging from months to thousands or millions of years. The classical period is 30 years, as defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). These quantities are most often surface variables such as temperature, precipitation, and wind. Climate in a wider sense is the state, including a statistical description, of the climate system.[4] The difference between climate and weather is usefully summarized by the popular phrase "Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get." You can't have climate without the weather! If the definition of one is reliant on the existence of the other... Never mind.
