Tally
The Jets are the latest team to land their new HC and it seems like most of the vacancy's are filling up pretty quickly. However, I havent read much about what Oakland is doing. does anyone have any recent news?
giantsfan
The Raiders have now completed three interviews for their head coaching vacancy after owner Al Davis spent Monday with Tampa Bay assistant coach Rod Marinelli, the Oakland Tribune reports. The club had already met with with Kansas City offensive coordinator Al Saunders -- the clear front-runner -- and San Diego receivers coach James Lofton. Next up could be Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The Raiders contacted Whisenhunt recently, but wouldn't be able to conduct a formal interview until Pittsburgh's playoff run is over. Two other potential candidates, Fresno State coach Pat Hill and Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino, took themselves out of the running on Tuesday. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Kansas City line coach Mike Solari might be a darkhorse candidate.

giantsfan
I think it will be Saunders. How do you feel about that HT?
Hat Trick
I think it will be Saunders. How do you feel about that HT? 1274071 Unfortunately i think so too. I don't like it one bit. The Offense won't be the #1 Off like it has the last two years without him. He deserves to get a head coaching gig and wants one really bad. If the Chiefs were smart they'd offer him whatever it took to get him to come back here. There are already rumblings about Herm wanting Whisenhunt to run the Off. kpholmes
Don't bet on anything too much. Al Davis is usually the last to pick, and picks the least expected.
Chief Dick
If Saunders goes the Chiefs better do all they can to retain Solari, not only for our offensive hopes but for fantasy purposes.

giantsfan
Who knows who'll they'll get now. Maybe Fassel. Bottom line is no one wants to work for Davis. I think that is pretty clear.

Don't think there is anything they can offer him to get him to stay now. You got to be pretty resigned to get out if you are considering the Oakland job. HandsToTheFace
Note to self....better not mark LJ down as #1 just yet. 1274600 Well Al Saunders was hired by the Redskins so Oaktowns list is getting short, fast. EDIT : I see LJ moving down a space or 2 and Portis moving up a couple. Edited January 19, 2006 by HandsToTheFace
Tally
Right after Turner was fired I read somewhere that Art Shell may get the job but I haven’t heard anything since then. I personally think he would do a great job. He certainly didn’t suck during his first go around from 89-94. If I remember correctly he only had one losing season in that span and still won like 7 games that year. I think he also made the playoffs at least 2 or 3 times during the 6 seasons he coached. As a Raider fan Shell is defintly the guy I'm pullin for, especially when I consider the other possibilities that are still left. Although, some of you KC goons are makin Solari sound kinda treaty and anything that hurts KC..... I'm all for. skylive5
I'm not sure why but I keep reading the name...and hearing the name... Lofton. Is that serious? Shell would be a good choice. He is well set in the Raider-way of doing things.

Al calls his firing one of the few regrets he has in his career. I would love to see Art back in the family.

I think the Bills put up over 50 points and Oak had only one field goal. That was one of the worst playoffs games in NFL history. Still, all in all Shell was a good coach. I felt like the team was always competitve under him. Would love to see him get another shot.

In fact, he QB'd the Giants to a Superbowl victory that season.

Man did they let me have it. It was just awful, so embarrassing, I truly wanted to die that day.
The Vatican Hitsquad
I'm right there with you, Raider fans "get it" a little harder than most when we're down. And until the Superbowl on 02, that was my lowest moment as a Radier fan. I felt like I wanted to die. I hate the Bills to this day.
