Rockerbraves
Certainly a Oakland homer knows what Davis is thinking. What's the local sports talk saying about this off the wall pick up.
godtomsatan
Lane Kiffin was the QB coach for his younger brother, right? The NFL is as much about connections as anything else is. So he has an opportunity to workout and keep playing? What's the harm?

Booty's brother, John David Booty, was the quarterback at Southern California last season, where new Raiders coach Lane Kiffin was an assistant. - from NFL.com The only logical conclusion is just that. I'm sure Kiffin met him threw John David. Maybe Kiffin has some kind of relationship with him and knows he can work with him, or something... I don't really understand it. Jolly Rodgers
I don't really understand it. He's what they call a "camp arm". You don't want your 1st and 2nd string QB's throwing out their arms in camp. However, do the Raiders have a 1st or 2nd string? Heard Josh knows that offense pretty good since he's been attending alot of the practices at USC.

broncosn05
Does this mean the Raiders are leaning towards taking JaMarcus Russell? It took 13 replies for this. This actually makes some sense. Looks like the offense will be right out of the LSU base format.
muck
...or, maybe is a very cheap smokescreen to convince someone else that JaMarcus Russell is going to OAK...

Unless you are looking to trade down, why smokescreen on the first pick of the draft?
Ziachild007
Booty is a decent 3rd string QB. Had a good high school and college career, just never amounted to much in the pros.

Can't be worse than Rick Mirer or Marques Tui in my book.
Return Of S&B
I don't know about Booty...but a lot of talk about Carr today....this write-up by Pasquarelli makes a lot of sense... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...ht&lid=tab2pos1 The team that makes the most sense, in terms of interest in Carr, should be Oakland, where there is no proven starter, although the Raiders seem inclined to use the first overall selection in the draft next month on LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Trading for Carr would provide the Raiders with the kind of strong-armed, vertical-game passer owner Al Davis has long favored and would dramatically alter the dynamic of first round. If the Raiders acquired Carr and scrapped their plans to choose Russell, Oakland could snatch the draft's best player, Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, with the top pick. And in addition to scrambling mock drafts around the country, not to mention the real draft, it would give Oakland a proven commodity at the game's most critical position. No matter what Carr's failures in Houston, he is still further along in his development than untested and raw Russell. Rumor is that Raiders coaches and scouts are beyond smitten with Johnson and view him as the surest thing in the talent pool. Plus, choosing him at the top of the draft also would allow Oakland to trade troublesome wide receiver Randy Moss. But it doesn't make sense to take Johnson unless you have a quarterback to get him the ball, and Carr would have a shot. And wasn't the Raiders' new coach and resident wunderkind Lane Kiffin an offensive guru of sorts during his tenure at Southern California? And one more intriguing note: Kiffin and Carr have some history together, as Kiffin was a coach at Fresno State during Carr's first two years there. I wouldn't mind Carr at all, especially if it meant having CJ2 on the field, and Moss off. If anything is going to happen, it will be soon: "Matt is our starting quarterback," general manager Rick Smith said. "We're trying to help David find another place. We're trying to trade him today, maybe the next couple of days." Edited March 22, 2007 by kpholmes
