Little Miss Sunshine...

Maybe a case of too much hype before seeing the movie? In any case, I thought the ending was the thing that made it worthwhile, but understandable if someone didn't like it.

Now if you dislike Shawshank, you have got something wrong with you...

Gotta agree. I saw it with my wife and it was like the 3rd or 4th time she'd seen it. She was practically giddy at the thought of seeing it again. Honestly, it's not like I saw it grudgingly. I had every reason to think I was going to like it. Then it ended and I just didn't have the heart to say that, while it didn't suck, it was absolutely nothing special.

How to score points as a quasi-indy flick:

First off, you need a disfunctional family. This is paramount. Loser dad with no money, mom holding the thing together, dis-interested teen, homely but ultimately cute achiever younger sibling, and somebody has to be gay (this is perhaps more important than even the whole disfunctional part). If you've got an old man who likes heroin, that's just gravy. OK, now create some zany premise and let the wacky good times roll.

Yep

my girl was the same- the movie ended and she was teary eyed, and I think at that moment it was the best movie she had seen in her lifetime, and would have gladly watched it again immediately.

Not what I expected and not nearly as good as I thought it would be. it had it's moments but nothing great at all.

I didn't like it till the last 15 minutes or so. :D

I thought it was great by the end.

Exactly what I was saying: the ending elevates it from an okay movie to an enjoyable movie. Nothing earth shattering, but it finishes strong which is very hard to do in movies and tv these days.

yeah, i agree. not terrible, but it just wasn't very good or interesting. same way i felt about sideways, which was another one i could take or leave that was getting lots of positive hype before i got around to seeing it. you get that weird feeling, "am i missing something, or is everyone else just stupid?" of course, since i am me, i already know it is the latter. :D
