isleseeya
My truck has tire locks ...problem is we lost the key ( the piece that you put on the nut- lock that is very specific ) ...now if we have a flat ( we just had one ) that lock can't be taken off ...does anyone know if you can buy a replacement key ( believe its hard to do so as each set is normally unique and specific ) or if it would be easier to break them off ( although a nightmare to do so ) Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated ..tia

To answer your question a tire store (Belle Tire) shoudl be able to help although I'm not sure how much they'll charge.
MikesVikes
Go to the dealer where you bought the truck. Not sure if they can help you out or not, but they may be able to find copy with your VIN.
MikesVikes
The lock code may be in the glove box and the dealer may be able to order a new one. What is the vehicle make?

ridinthewake
if there is enough room between the outside of the wheel lock/lug nut and the inside of the rim then you can find a socket that will just fit over it and then beat it on with a hammer. It should have enough grad so that you can get the wheel lock off.

There is very little room between the two ..may still be worth a shot ...although I believe if I try it you will see a thread from me in a few hours about a broken thumb ..lol

Ursa Majoris
This is the traditional way that thief's beat tire locks. I'd like to compliment you on your new avi and ask that the full-size version be made available for further study. TIA.
myhousekey
I ran into the same issue awhile back. I found 2 options. 1. I had the info in the glove box from when we bought the car about the tire lock and could order a replacement key from that lock company. 2. The dealer can provide you with a replacement key. I didn't need the key immediately and option 1 was cheaper so I went that route. Edited June 8, 2007 by myhousekey
Catfish
I’ve had this problem. I was able to grip the lock nut with a small monkey wrench and turn it off. My plan B would have been to drill into the lock nut, and use a bolt extractor to back it out.

irish
I worked at a shop for just about 12 years and every time this happened we hammered a larger socket onto it and that got it off or used vice grips if it wasn't on too tight. It seems like a major deal a first but it's pretty easy to take care of. Good Luck!!

Chief came up with some good advice Actually this would probably be the easiest thing to do, although you may have to buy a new set of wheel locks afterwards.
