nuke'em ttg
Why do i need a Home Phone these days (besides 911)..........I'll save $480.00/year........... How many here have dropped your Home Phone........?
AtomicCEO
I have had no home phone since 2002. Why would I need it? Long distance calls are free on my cell phone, and I never use all my minutes. The only hassle is when we have a babysitter watching the kids. But they almost always have a cell phone, and if they don't we leave my wife's phone home for the babysitter.

Furd
I kicked mine to the curb 2.5 years ago. It was a good decision. The only thing that concerns me about it is that it would be difficult to get in touch with me if I lost my cell phone.

wirehairman
I haven't had a landline in 6 years. No point in paying for it if I'm going to have a cell phone regardless.
MuddyPaws
the only thing keeping mine in the wall is DirecTV. Would love to drop the expense. Until they have something now that means I don't have to dial up...
SheikYerbuti
Once we figured out how to get the Tivo to contact HQ through our wireless router, we got rid of the home phone. This was about 3 years ago. Good ridd'nce!!
max
I got rid of my home phone in 1998. Never had a reason to keep it. Just another bill to pay when everone that wants to talke to me just called my cell anyways.
loaf
I've got SBC and their DSL is $50/month without the land line. With the land line I pay about the same

The people on their support WILL tell you that that is how the box downloads program information. This is a confirmed blatant lie. I ran a DirecTV box for 2 years without a phone line attached. Do a google search, and you will find many sources that confirm this. The only thing that the phone line does for you is download software upgrades. If need be, you can take the box somewhere with a phone line, plug it in, and force a software update once a year. That's what I did. joeyb7
There's only one reason.....if you call 911 and you can't speak for some reason (dying), not all cities/towns have the ability to track your cell to your house - leaving you for dead.
