CaptainHook
so, the eight game suspension counts even if he's not on a NFL roster? I was wondering about that the other day. Or does the suspension start when he signs?
piratesownninjas
I don't think the suspension has started until he's actually on a roster...
Kansas State 2000
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the suspension could be reduced to six games if Johnson had no further involvement with law enforcement and underwent counseling. Cowboyz1
The suspension has started, he will be eligable to play week 9 and in a Dallas Cowboys uniform. However, he doens't know our defense nor will he be in football shape so he wou't even be useful until week 12 but that's ok, just in time for a playoff run. Kansas State 2000
I'd expect any team looking to sign Tank would require the passing of a physical as well as continued training until the suspension is over.

Blowing Up
But he can't even practice with the team until the suspension is over. Actually he can. Only Pacman was not allowed to participate. Both Chris Henry and Dominick Rhodes are suspended, both were in training camp and played in pre-season. They are both practicing with their teams as well. Kansas State 2000
By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News cwatkins@dallasnews.com IRVING – The Cowboys will bring in suspended defensive tackle Tank Johnson for a physical and interview Tuesday, multiple sources said. Johnson had a room registered in his name at an airport hotel Monday night. Johnson, 25, played with the Chicago Bears for three years before he was released in June after he was pulled over by police in Arizona for driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone at 3:30 a.m. A police officer thought Johnson was impaired, but a blood test proved otherwise. The Bears said at the time they were embarrassed by Johnson's off-the-field problems. He was suspended for the first eight games of this season for violating probation on a gun charge. He spent two months in jail and was released in May. The Cowboys are considering signing him to add depth to a weakened defensive line that lost starting nose guard Jason Ferguson for the season in Week 1. Jay Ratliff is the starter at nose guard, with Remi Ayodele the backup. Earlier in the day, coach Wade Phillips was asked about possible roster changes concerning the defensive line. "Well, I don't think we're going to panic because I think he can play," Phillips said regarding Ratliff. "I thought that all along. I thought he was potentially a starter somewhere for us because of his work ethic and his great motor and his ability."
Cowboyz1
IRVING, Texas - It appears the Cowboys do have some serious interest in Tank Johnson after all. The team is expected to bring in Johnson for a physical on Tuesday at the team's facility in Valley Ranch and could sign the former Bears defensive tackle as early as this week. Johnson is currently in his third week of an eight-game suspension by the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy. However, Johnson told ESPN.com late Monday night that he expects to play with the Cowboys, after his suspension. "I'm here to work some things out," Johnson said. "I'm looking here for a fresh start." If signed by the Cowboys, the earliest Johnson would be available to play would be on Nov. 3, when the club plays at Philadelphia, one week after its bye. If signed, Johnson would not be able to work out with the club until the end of the suspension. Coincidentally, the Cowboys will play Johnson's former team Sunday night at Soldier Field for the team's first trip to Chicago since 1998. Looks like the Cowboys are buying some intell with thier depth.........

Vet
What Tank CAN do is give the Cowboys lots of information before Dallas flies to Chicago this weekend. If they're trying to use Tank Johnson to gather intellegence, I'm afraid they are going to be sorely disappointed. (Sorry, I know....that was racist.) Bill Swerski
Very solid DT, but it may be just a matter of time before he's arrested again and suspended for a year by Goodell. I find it strange that it's taken a team this long to sign him. There are A LOT of teams who are in need of help at DT, and I would guess that Lovie didn't exactly give him a ringing endorsement.
