New Years Eve Plans

Depends on if we want to see the Rose parade for free or not - its been an every-other-year sort of thing for us. If so, we have to get all the kids up, grab the donuts, coffee and lawn chairs and get down to Victory park by about 6am, to ensure a decent spot for the 'tail end' of it.

That is, it reaches us by about 10am - roughly 2.5 hours after the B2 flyover - and what a spectacle it is. After over 5 miles, the smiles - and athletic moves - are pretty much gone from the cheerleaders and band members, their feet hurt; half the tall floats don't successfully extend back up to their full height (after bending down to pass under the 210 fwy) and the flowers are falling off. But for the years that USC is in the game, we can at least flash our Vs (thats fingers for victory, sickos) and shout fight on to the world famous songgirls in their tight sweaters. When they smile back at me, and the wife gets jealous, its almost worth the price of admission right there. Which is free, as I mentioned....

But I prefer the 'off years': going outside with the kiddies to hear/see the flyover when they come just south of the house, then retreating back inside to nurse the hangover and watch it all on tv. This totally determines how much fun we can have the night before, and whether or not we try to stay up until 12am for the drunken kiss.

And I can't even remember when we last had that glorious '1st F*ck of the New Year' before drifting to sleep. Man, its been awhile...
