Chief Dick
Now that Miami has signed him, why wouldn't a team trade up with Miami to get him? Say, for example, the Chiefs gave the Dolphins their 2 first round picks this year and a first next year. Why has this never happened, and what would it take for Miami to do the deal? Discuss. Zooty
If he's already signed there would be a massive cap hit due to his bonus. Unless he signed without one
Swiss Cheezhead
cap hit Good call, Zooty. That would be the primary reason.
Chief Dick
What if both parties agreed to a restructuring of the contract to make it cap friendly for both sides?
Big John
What if both parties agreed to a restructuring of the contract to make it cap friendly for both sides? The signing bonus already went to the player, so a new contract could not touch that and the salary-cap hit for that original signing bonus would all apply to 2008 if he was traded now. Outshined
I think it would be a bad move. You can go the safe route and get the next best OL and still have two more picks. What if Jake Long gets injured, fat and lazy or is a bust, you lose him and your picks.
