Popup blocking is turned on by default, so you don't have to worry about enabling it to prevent popups from appearing in Firefox.
kpholmes
AVG Free Version is all any computer ever will need as long as you let it run it's automatic update every day. You can download it here from Download.com When you instal it make sure you turn off the daily system scan, or you will find yourself wondering why your computer got slower. Hitman
Slick your HD....and be more careful on the innernets. Also, control who uses your innernets and how they use it. Edited May 13, 2008 by Hitman

Ghola
I just recovered from this nasty little trojan. No don't wipe your HD & just watch what gets downloaded from the "innernets". Search then install Spybot 1.5.2. Update it, then scan. It found the critter infecting my comp. Now I know what you're thinking, why should you believe another guy on the "innernets" hyping some program, but when your computer is in the condition yours is in you'll install almost anything that could help. By the way don't bother with Adaware, it's junk so save your 30 bucks. It didn't touch this pop up virus.

AtomicCEO
I though Spybot had gone to crap since 2001. I haven't used it in years. Did it make a recovery?
Hitman
I though Spybot had gone to crap since 2001. I haven't used it in years. Did it make a recovery? I don't know....I haven't used it in years either. I stopped using it and others around the time i switched to FF. I guess downloading a bunch of "fix it" programs and bloating your PC with even MORE crapware...errr I mean...software that might fix the problem...(probably only temporarily if you continue to use IE) is better than backing up all your files, slicking the PC and using Firefox and a decent anti-virus from that point forward. I'm sure you'll get alot better results and your time will be better spent trying to "fix" it and installing/uninstalling "free tools". I was being sarcastic in my first post in the thread, but the advice was serious. Scare, if you have never "slicked" or reformatted a PC, I think that experience will be much more useful to you than installing a bunch of "tools". That's how most people's PCs get screwed in the first place. If you want to "fix" your PC without a doubt....this is the way to go...you'll get better performance out of the PC (no matter how old) and you'll actually learn something in the process. If you decide to do a clean install...and need any help...just ask. If not, have fun with the tools. Edited May 14, 2008 by Hitman
TheShiznit
I though Spybot had gone to crap since 2001. I haven't used it in years. Did it make a recovery? Kim Kamando uses spybot search and destroy.....it works on my PC, but I also have McAfee's free suite with my comcast innernet connection. Scare Tactics
So ive tried a few things and nothing has gotten rid of it.. I tried spybot S&D / Smitfrauffix and some other program i forget the name of... As some1 mentioned to slick the computer, i cannot do that because this is a work computer. I work in a high pressure boiler plant, and cannot delete the entire system.... This computer is used by many of us engineers and ofc im sure this spyware was d/l to this comp while some1 was watching porn or something... Anyway, if anyone can give me some help on getting rid of this it would be appreciated..

Scare Tactics
Yes we have an IT dept.. But that opens up a can of worms we do not want.. Honestly they would likely have more of an issue with you installing/uninstalling various freeware on it to try to fix the problem.

Is there only 1 login for this PC? If so, I don't see why it would be a big deal to report it. If not, I guess they could nail down the culprit. There is only one thing left to do... Now run the virus test, and delete or quarantine anything it finds, and you're home free. Make sure you let it update every day.

How do you turn off the daily system scan? I installed it a couple weeks ago because my trial Norton expired, but my laptop has been running slower since then.
