Third Hand Smoke

you should pick your nose and eat your boogers too

Picking your nose and eating it is one of the best ways to stay healthy, according to a top Austrian doctor.

Innsbruck-based lung specialist Prof Dr Friedrich Bischinger said people who pick their noses with their fingers were healthy, happier and probably better in tune with their bodies.

He says society should adopt a new approach to nose-picking and encourage children to take it up.

Dr Bischinger said: "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner.

"And eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system.

"Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.

"Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat it get a natural boost to their immune system for free."

He pointed out that children happily pick their noses, yet by the time they have become adults they have stopped under pressure from a society that has branded it disgusting and anti social.

He said: "I would recommend a new approach where children are encouraged to pick their nose. It is a completely natural response and medically a good idea as well."

And he pointed out that if anyone was really worried about what their neighbour was thinking, they could still enjoy picking their nose in private if they still wanted to get the benefits it offered.

The concept of "third-hand smoke" is a new one, and there are many studies that have to be done in the future to determine its effect. Until then....who knows???

While it is true that infants receive the toxins and nicotine in the breastmilk of mothers who smoke, the levels of those substances is small enough that the other beneficial properties of breastmilk outweigh them.

irony enough for an Alanis Morissette song.

As a side note, Alanis doesn't know the difference between situations that are ironic and just unfortunate. She misuses the term about 85% of the time.

:D

So Sheik is Ed Byrne

The popular Irish comedian Ed Byrne often performs a skit in which he jokingly attacks the song for its lack of ironies: "The only ironic thing about that song is it's called ironic and it's written by a woman who doesn't know what irony is. That's quite ironic." Byrne goes through the song, working out how to change the various unfortunate incidents, mentioned in the song, into ironies. [7]

i think all the $ we're paying for health care for smokers probably offsets the tax revenue by tenfold.

actually, we get the money back by having the smokers die an earlier death, thus they are not collecting social security and other benefits, thus eventually getting passed on to the rest.

And over-excessive protection may just be counter-productive.

Honestly, is anyone REALLY worried about this chit? If so, yer a f'n basket case.

here is the true answer to the original question!

So my wife was talking to her semi-crazy friend who heard about this Third Hand Smoke "dilemma". My wife is now up in arms about the fact that my father is visiting and still smokes. My dad goes outside to smoke but he smells like it and the garage kind of smells like it since he's throwing out the butts in a coffee can that we keep in there. My son sits with him at night and plays and my wife is afraid that something bad will happen to him.

What do you think? Anyone heard of this yet? I'm not sure yet. This Article claims that even though a mother that smokes and breast feeds can transfer all the toxins to her baby... it's still preferred for her to continue breast feeding than bottle feeding. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I don't think you're dad is as big a threat to you're son as the semi-crazy friend.

I quit smoking 6 years ago, so I hate to sound like a hypocrite on the subject knowing I did the same things. I quit for one reason only, the birth of my son. I didn't want him growing up around it, in turn I'm much healthier for it.

My wife's brother smokes like a chimney and she visits him all the time with our 5 year old. I keep telling her that it's not healthy for Alexander , but she says he doesn't smoke when they visit. However, every time they come home, Alex smells as if he has smoked 5 cigs himself. It's disgusting and I want it stopped. I quit for his health, so I'm not going to tolerate someone else contributing to future health issues. My foot was put down a few days ago, so we'll see what happens. I know third hand smoke is real and see little difference from 2nd hand smoke.
